We had this vote last month about whether we want the city and county public services merged. It was totally lame, because Des Moines would lose its mayor, but all the suburbs would keep theirs, etc. Really stupid idea that was shot down like 80 to 20. Yet I read in the paper today that they are having meetings about merging the goverments. What?! If they're gonna be greedy jerks, then why did we bother to even vote?
But then we're talking about a city who, to save money, turned street lights off and a little kid got killed. Not real swift anyway.
