WABC continues to be the highest rated channel in NYC in total day ... and in the country:
Channel 7 is the Most-Viewed Station in New York and the Nation
'Eyewitness News' is in First Place at 5AM, 6AM, 12PM, 5PM and 6PM in Nov'04
Nielsen Survey.
NEW YORK, Dec. 2 -- MAKE NO MISTAKE. WABC-TV is New York's
highest-rated broadcast station, delivering more households Monday-Sunday
Sign-On to Sign-Off than any other station. This is according to Nielsen's
Nov'04 Local People Meter data, which also shows Channel 7's "Eyewitness News"
to be the dominant news franchise in the market, with first place finishes
within NY households in five of six news races. Also, across the day,
"Eyewitness News" is viewed by more New York Adults 25-54 than WNBC-TV's
"NewsChannel 4" or WCBS-TV's "CBS 2 News."*
Here are the highlights of Channel 7's performance in the Nov'04 Nielsen
report:
-- First Place News at 6pm -- "Eyewitness News" delivers a 6.9 rating/14
share in households and a 2.7 rating/11 share in Adults 25-54, beating
competing newscasts on WNBC-TV, WCBS-TV and WNYW-TV. The 6pm
"Eyewitness News" finishes in first place in HH Rating on 18 of 20
days, M-F, and is anchored by Bill Ritter, Liz Cho, Sam Champion and
Scott Clark.
-- First Place News at 5pm -- "Eyewitness News" notches a 6.9 rating/ 15
share in households and a 3.0 rating/14 share among Adults 25-54,
Monday-Friday. This Channel 7 newscast delivers more Adults 25-54
than its 3 competitors combined, and is anchored by Diana Williams,
Sade Baderinwa and Sam Champion.
-- First Place News at 5am -- "Eyewitness News" with Lori Stokes, Steve
Bartelstein and Bill Evans is top-rated with a 1.9 rating/12 share in
households.
-- First Place News at 6am -- "Eyewitness News" ties for first place with
WNBC-TV's "Today in NY", both delivering a 3.3 rating/14 share in
households.
-- First Place News at 12pm -- "Eyewitness News" scores a 4.7 rating/ 16
share in households, beating competing midday newscasts on WCBS-TV and
WNYW-TV. This edition of "Eyewitness News" delivers a 1.6 rating/13
share among Adults 25-54, more than that delivered by its competitors

-- First Place Network News at 6:30pm -- "ABC World News Tonight with
Peter Jennings" wins the network news race with a 7.2 rating/13 share
in households. Among Adults 25-54, its 2.6 rating/10 share matches
the combined deliveries of the competing network news programs on CBS
and NBC.
-- Strongest Audience Retention -- "Eyewitness News" at 11pm is the only
newscast in the time period to build upon its primtime lead-in's
share. With Bill Ritter, Liz Cho, Sam Champion and Scott Clark,
"Eyewitness News" finishes in second place in households with a 6.5
rating/12 share, Monday-Sunday, just 0.3 rating points away from WNBC-
TV's "NewsChannel 4 at 11" . Despite WNBC-TV's 2-share point
advantage over WABC-TV in primtime, "Eyewitness News" matches WNBC-TV
with a 12 share at 11pm.
-- Top-rated Morning Program -- "Live! With Regis and Kelly" is the time
period winner with a 4.2 rating/16 share in households. Newcomer "Tony
Danza" posts a 3.7 rating/13 share, beating "Ellen" by almost one full
rating point and three share points.
-- Top-rated Early Fringe Program -- "Oprah Winfrey" at 4pm wins the
afternoon race with a 7.8 rating/19 share in households. It beats the
combined deliveries of "Judge Judy" on NBC/4 and "People's Court on
CBS/2.
-- Top-rated Access Programs -- "Jeopardy!" and "Wheel of Fortune" on
ABC/7 remain the leaders in prime access, respectively delivering a
10.6 rating/18 share and a 9.5 rating/16 share.
