They didn't have a toilet becasue Mr. Brady was a mean, mean man. Oh, sure... he looked all friendly and helpful on the outside, but on the inside he was a tyrannical sadist who basked in his power by not allowing his family members to go to the bathroom. This is why the kids where always so happy to go on any trip... they finally got to use a bathroom!

The real reason is because the network thought that having a toilet in the Bradys' only bathroom would give the show a "bad image."

Personally, I think that a toilet is a MUCH better image than the image of some sadistic pervert who gets off on forcing children to become analy retentive!

Or instead of assuming people are mean (I won't give any names) you could assume that maybe people are curious! I mean people can be curious about things can they not?

Maybe they don't have a toilet because it is
just a 30 min. show and in those days they
were not allowed to show their bare ass on the stool! LOL!!

This thread needs someone with a little imagination. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/tongue.gif
The kindly Mr. Brady realized that one of his major challenges with his larger family would be contention for the bathrooms. After all, this can be a problem even in smaller families.
As part of his solution, he remodeled his house having the upstairs bathroom split into two rooms: a bathroom and a toilet room, each with its own sink.
We never see the toilet room in operation because it's a family show. But there was an episode where we heard it flush.

-and a running gag on All In The Family was hearing Archie flushing his toilet. How times change!!
Anyhow, this reminds me of an article about aliens observing earth through television. One of them reported,"No one is seen going to the bathroom or using money,so they must not exist on earth,"but another-who paid more attention to comercials, reported,"America is bathroom-obsessed and money-mad."

This is a stupid/dumb topic - may, I just add. It is also a gross topic - let's just drop the whole topic, okay?

Even though this is off-topic I thought I'd mention that is part of why I consider AITF to be an offensive show.

No toilet was shown cause in the 70s intimate moments involving sex or stuff like that were considered offensive. Its a change from today where a show mentions private parts & such, not to mention profanity the F word, and mess. The toilet was considered private you see. However you can hear it flush. It reminds me of the old Holiness churches where they didn't allow pants or movies. Christian Research Institute mentioned a certain group that "It was reported" COULDN'T CHEW GUM. Oh well this should explain the toilet thing somewhat.
This ranks right along with the Astroturf!

There is a person watching me who needs a new car ZOE ZOE ZOE back to Brady Revelations; there are several people listening who are wandering about the toilet. Here is wisdom from above the 2nd Heaven: Brady Bunch Encyclopedia; Search Google, link up & go to FAQs section my son. Glory its a word from George Burns! God of Sitcoms!!! I maintain that the toilet was in a corner of the bathroom between the kids rooms off camera; you have to imagine it. I can. Also several sites have real floor plans of the Brady house, but for Pastor Bob here, I once again maintain that the kids did have a bathroom. The modern urinals you see in bathrooms at restaurants, etc would have worked for whizzes. As for the other part well there was a secret area for that. I mean I don't want to see somebody defecating for goodness sakes http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif Amen But there is a bathroom; otherwise they wouldn't have lived for too long. Maybe an outhouse something. Let us be in peace. For knowing is half the battle. There may have been an unseen door w/a bathroom in it; after all some parts of Brady House are not seen at all like the basement, etc. Thank you Jesus. Take the anoiting for it was good!

There was a toilet, it just was never seen. In the episode, My Brother's Keeper, Bobby flushes the unseen toilet.

they should have had an episode where they showed Marcia peeing. That would have been neat to watch her. What do you guys think?

I think that it is kind of hilarious. I wonder what Marcia's friends would have said, if Marcia told them they didn't have a toilet. That would have been like so totally hilarious!!!! This is kind of disgusting but ,oh well, it's more funny than disgusting!!!! The Brady Bunch was a good show, but it is kind of obsurd in alot of things, but hey!!!

They made a reference to this in "The Brady Bunch Movie". The neighbors are talking about how weird the Bradys are and one neighbor says, "You know, I heard their maid works for free! And I've been over there, and I've never seen a toilet!"

Why James? Don't you ever flush the toilet at your house so people can hear..or do you have a "silencer" on the thang? :D Compared to the trash on TV today, where they talk about what's actually IN the toilet, All In The Family was one tame show. Yes, Archie sat and shat. So do you. Get over it.

I think your post belongs on some sort of non-family board. Like a pervert porno board. That's what I think. Take it somewhere else, there are kids here. If you ARE a kid, think about what you're typing.

Yes, I flush the toilet at home. But such stuff is inappropriate for television IMHO. It takes away from the wholesomeness of the show, the wholesomeness you would find on, say, The Andy Griffith Show.
