'dr. vegas' Craps Out for Sweeps
(Tuesday, November 02 03:16 PM)

LOS ANGELES (www.zap2it.com) Just days after CBS ordered two addition scripts for the freshman drama "dr. vegas," the network unveiled a November sweeps schedule with the Rob Lowe drama absent. CBS has put "dr. vegas" in that endearing television limbo known as haitus.
Averaging 8.16 million viewers through its first five airings, "dr. vegas" has struggled opposite NBC's competing medical drama "Medical Investigation," losing a not-so-healthy portion of its "JAG" lead-in.

In place of "dr. vegas," which stars Lowe as a casino doctor and Joe Pantoliano as his hard-edged boss, CBS will show repeats of various forensic dramas from the seemingly unstoppable Jerry Bruckheimer factors. "Without a Trace" will show this Friday (Nov. 5) with "Cold Case," "CSI: Miami" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" holding down the 10 p.m. ET hour in subsequent weeks.

Although CBS still plans to bring "dr. vegas" back in December, the show's stars probably know enough to be wary. Lowe's last drama, NBC's "The Lyon's Den," was cancelled last fall after being put on hiatus for November sweeps, while Pantoliano's "The Handler" lasted until January and was put on hold for February sweeps, never to return again.
