The WB Says Goodbye to 'Grounded'
By Brian Ford Sullivan

LOS ANGELES (www.thefutoncritic.com) -- Two networks, five seasons and 91 episodes later, "Grounded for Life" is getting permanently "grounded."

The WB confirmed today that it doesn't plan to pick up the show's back nine order this season, effectively ending the series. Just seven episodes remain from its 13-episode fifth season, which resumes its run on November 5. (Two episodes from FOX's production run also have yet to air however it's not clear if the WB will broadcast them.)

Overall this season, "Grounded" has averaged a mediocre 2.66 million viewers, ahead of fellow Frog series "What I Like About You" (2.62 million), "Jack & Bobby" (2.42 million) and "Steve Harvey's Big Time" (2.37 million). Nevertheless with producer Carsey-Werner already having sold the show's off-network run to ABC Family earlier this year for $175,000 per episode (read the story), the network and studio may have had little financial incentive to continue producing the series.

The news marks the second blow to the WB's Friday comedy lineup this season, the first being the decision last week to scrap newcomer "Commando Nanny" before it even got to air (read the story). It's expected that the Fran Drescher-led sitcom "Shacking Up" will take over the Friday, 8:30/7:30c half-hour once "Grounded" completes its run early next year.

I watched the show occasionally and found it amusing. Not surprised it was canned, though, jumping a network is almost always equal to jumping the shark.

Obviously they kept it long enough for a syndication deal.

This sucks.
I just started to watch this regularly then WB screws it over.

I loved this show the first two seasons, but Grounded for Life totally jumped the shark when Shawn and Eddie bought that bar and Grandpa Walt stopped appearing in every episode. (I dunno if he's back on the show or what, but he was absent from several season 3 eps if I recall correctly) For those who might have missed the superior (IMO) early episodes, I think the show is coming to syndication on ABC Family in January. I remember seasons 1 and 2 being consistently funny, and then the quality of the show went downhill in a major way in season 3, prompting me to eventually abandon the series.

Grounded for Life was an excellent show. Grounded for Life was the only show on TV about an Irish-American family. I hope it still has a chance to get picked up maybe for Mid-Season, or for FOX to take it back or maybe go to a new network like NBC, CBS, ABC.

ABC has a lot of family shows on and Grounded for Life is better than all of them.

I still enjoy the show although it isn't the same without Henry. That little bastard was the funniest kid on TV. :D

That's too bad, Grounded was a very funny show and had an unique quality to it. Having a hot Claudia doesn't hurt either and Lily is becoming a hottie in her own right.

I'll miss the Finerties!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

It's ending in two days!!! :(. I used to watch it frequently but then it got boring and I didn't as much. But I love that the two of them finally got together and how Claudia got pregnant.
