A lot of other shows' boards have these kinds of threads now, so I figured I'd start one for "Friends."

If you're bored or just have something meaningless to post, do it here.

My day's been nothing but total boredom. College classes, waiting an hour and a half for my ride, nothing to read on the internet, nothing on TV...

I think I'm gonna go to a bookstore, grab some coffee and just relax.

Could a mod or someone sticky this? I'd hate to see this thread peter out.

Trying to keep this alive....

yesterday I bought Season 5 and Season 6.... but I haven't even finished watching Season 4 yet.

As a former hater, I must say.... this show just gets better and better.

Season 4 is my personal favorite season, I think you'll love it. Everyone has something to do all year-long.

Wow, that is flying. Last I remember you talking about it (like a week ago) you were just starting season 3.

I imagine you'll be all caught up with the first eight seasons by the end of the month. :p

I'm getting Season 8 for free.... I still need to get Season 7.

But as good as Friends is.... it all goes on hold when Frasier arrives.

I got into "Frasier" late over this past summer, so I've only seen two episodes from the last season (the Maris murderer two-parter). I'm looking forward to it too, if only because I've gotten addicted to watching at least two episodes of something before going to sleep.

I liked it. For me, "Frasier" is one of those shows I watch to pass the time or to have something to watch, but if I miss an episode in syndication I won't be too upset. I don't think it's a bad show at all, it's just not quite my taste. I like it enough to buy the DVDs though.

I'm anxious to see how the finale played out, even though I know what happened.

Me.... I just dont watch shows in syndication.

Time is money.

The Frasier finale is one of the best (I liked it more than the Friends finale, but I'm a much bigger fan of Frasier than Friends).... because it's not the usual "ohh, everybody can go now and be happy and it's all over"

I wasn't particularly fond of Frasier and Charlotte as a couple, but the final twist in the final moment of the finale was very interesting, and I'm glad they went that route. (well, unless of course Lilith could return, but thats another thread, another time)

Neither do I, for the most part. I only will if I need a serious fix for a certain show and have gotten tired of whatever episodes are on the DVDs.

It sounded like a really good finale. I usually don't like the happy ending kind of finale that "Friends" had, but it was appropriate for the theme of the show. They started out as codependent people still finding their place in life and thinking of each other as family, and by the end they'd matured to the point of getting married, having kids, basically starting their own family. They didn't have to be so closeknit anymore, they had their own lives now.

I couldn't believe they had him end up with some random new character. I would have wanted Lilith too. Can never have enough Lilith. I really, really, really liked the twist ending though.

I saw "The One With Chandler in a Box" and couldn't stop laughing. Of the 3 or 4 Thanksgiving episodes I've seen so far, this was the best.

I'll watch "TOW The Embryos" today.

Monica has maybe her best line of the whole series in that episode.

"Fine, judge me all you want, but married a lesbian, left a guy at the altar, fell in love with a gay ice dancer, threw a girl's wooden leg into the fire, lives in a box!"

barwars

"TOW The Embryos" was GREAT. I loved it. AND.... it was further proof that the show could work without Phoebe.

I'm in the middle of Disc 3 now.... but Im here at work until 6:30.

"Embryos" is probably the most popular Friends episode ever.

You can actually play Ross's game as an extra on the DVD, too.

Oh, and the best thing about it is the apartment-switching storyline that starts with that episode. I don't know why, but for some reason that's hilarious to me.

I've never seen an episode where they had switched apartments, so this is all new to me.... and I'm loving it.

Joey not realizing the carpet changed to hardwood was hilarious.

And Monica covering the holes with coloring pages.... then Rachel rips one, and Monica says something like "I know, there isn't a hole there, but I really like that picture" hahaha, this is my favorite storyline of the series.

And is it just me.... or is Ross better with Emily than Rachel??

slackermonkey
11-13-2004, 07:38 PM
It's just you. In about a dozen episodes, you'll more than likely be hating Emily. I'm still all for Ross and Rachel, just not in the obsessive 'OMG RNR 4EVER <3' way, though. Never like that.

I assume you haven't gotten to "The One With the Fake Party" yet... it's one of my favorite season 4 episodes (but almost never gets mentioned).

If it helps, I haven't seen it yet, and it's looking like I might not have enough money to get Seinfeld right away.

The Monica & Chandler affair is one of my favorite running storylines from the series.

Guess you got to Joey watching "Cheers" by now?

hahaha, yes, one of my favorite scenes.
I realized that no other show could do that. The only one that comes close is M*A*S*H, but then again that's too sad to cheer someone up.

 You have to get Seinfeld.... did you read about the deal at Best Buy??

slackermonkey
11-16-2004, 06:33 PM
Yep, that's the deal I was going to go for. I had already preordered it at Suncoast months ago, but the free disc, TV on DVD issue and lower price are tempting enough to make me switch my preorder.

I'm working my ass off to scrape as much money together as I can before next Tuesday. I probably should have held off on "Frasier" til I got "Seinfeld," since I like "Seinfeld" far, far more.

(I'll bet that earns me another whore comment.)

True. It could be worse, I could like "The Nanny" far better than "Frasier."

I've seen it before.... and liked it a lot.
BUT, I'm sure watching it on DVD, and with the whole series (thus far) in perspective, it will be even better.

I wouldn't have watched Season 8 of Friends until I finished the others anyways.... but now that Im getting it for free, I'll have to watch a few episodes before reviewing it.

Yeah, I hate to watch episodes/seasons out of order.

I'm still kind of pissed that Paramount released season 11 of "Frasier" out of order, but I'll be watching it anyway. Any confusion is worth it just to have something to watch. At least the others are getting released.

I can recommend a few season 8 episodes for you to watch to do your review, btw. Let me know.

I would say "The One After I Do," "The One Where Rachel Tells Ross," "The One With the Videotape" and "The One Where Rachel Has a Baby" would all be good sample episodes. The last three even get commentaries.

Some of my personal favorites from that year would be "The One With the Stripper," "The One Where Chandler Takes a Bath," "The One in Massapequa" and "The One With the Baby Shower."

I just wish Paramount would release Wings on DVD already. I'm getting so ticked that they seem to be completely ignoring Wings(as usual).

Hopefully they're waiting to release it when all of Frasier and Cheers are out.

No, it shouldn't have. It's a good show, but "Cheers" and "Frasier" are far more popular and well-known. It's smarter to get those shows out first. I'm sure "Wings" will be out soon, but no way should it have come before Paramount's moneymaker sitcoms.

Season 5 is a great season. Next to seasons 1, 4 and 8, it's one of my favorites.

I love "The One With the Kips" and "The One Where Ross Moves In"... neither are really episodes you think of when you talk about season 5, though.

barwars
11-20-2004, 06:54 PM
Of the first five seasons (the ones I've watched on DVD)....

This is how I'd rank them....

5. Season 2
4. Season 3
3. Season 1
2. Season 4
1. Season 5

slackermonkey
11-20-2004, 06:58 PM
I would say...

1. Season 4
2. Season 1
3. Season 5
4. Season 3
5. Season 2

The second half of season 5, for me at least, isn't quite as good as the first half. It's still one of the better seasons, but it loses something in the middle.

Once I finish all the seasons I own, I'll watch the commentaries.

Exactly.
"The One That Goes Behind The Scenes" is a GREAT featurette. I just finished Season 5 today, and I watched that too.

I was sick all yesterday and watched most of Season 5.

I wont start Season 6 for a while.
With Seinfeld coming out tomorrow and everything.

I'm going right after school to Best Buy.

Getting myself the Re-Gift Set with the magazine and 9th disc.
Then I'm coming home, and planting myself in front of the TV for a Seinfeld marathon.

I'll probably fly through Seasons 1&2 in tomorrow alone.
The entire set will most likely be done by the end of Thanksgiving break.

I have to remember to record the reunion, seeing that I wont be home Thursday.

But, we're going to my aunt and uncle's house, and they're huge Sein-fans, so I'll wont be missing it.

I actually saw that issue of EW in the mall today, and was too tempted not to buy it. I guess I'll just have two copies, then.

I'm waking up early tomorrow to hit Best Buy as soon as it opens to get the Re-Gift Set.

God bless whoever invented Tivo, since I'll be away for the day on Thanksgiving and won't have anyone at home to record The Seinfeld Story for me.

I HATE BEST BUY

They sold out, immediately.

They had 4 copies of each individual volume, and only 2 Re-Gift sets.

They said something screwed up with the shipping and much more will be in tomorrow.

AND, they wouldnt let me take the free disc

Which means, Im stuck waiting until tomorrow morning.

slackermonkey
11-23-2004, 04:03 PM
That's so weird. Mine had plenty of copies of each. But then, I'd guess that's not what you'd want to hear.

Couldn't you have tried Wal-Mart or something (assuming you can resist the white trashiness that is WM), then gone back to Best Buy tomorrow for the bonus disc and magazine?

Either way, sorry you didn't get yours.

I guess I can manage until tomorrow (no school, so I'll be there immediately!) I'll watch Season 6 of Friends tonight, but it's not the same.

slackermonkey
11-23-2004, 04:52 PM
Are you serious? At mine, they had a whole shelf of bonus discs right next to the individual volumes and gift sets, with a $3.99 price sticker on it. They should have let you buy it separately, otherwise there's no reason to have it on the shelf instead of at the register or something. Sounds like you've got a crappy Best Buy.

And yes, as much as I love Friends, it's just not the same as Seinfeld. But then, Seinfeld is in a whole sitcom category of its own.

Usually my Best Buy is great, this is the first problem I've ever had with them.

I asked if I could purchase the bonus disc seperately, but they said it can't be rung up unless purchased with one of the other DVDs.

Okay, so the bonus disc is essentially worthless.

All it is is 10 minutes of interviews with the supporting characters, talking about their roles before going on Seinfeld.

It would have made a nice extra on the DVDs, but it certainly isn't worth a whole extra disc. I figured it'd be something like a talk show appearance or a bonus episode. But 10 minutes of, well, nothing, isn't worth $4. Glad I got it for free.

Not particularly. I mean, I'm glad I have it for completion's sake, but I doubt I'll ever watch it again.

slackermonkey

Where are your Frasier and Friends DVDs, btw? Sure is taking awhile, but I guess that's the downside of getting them for free.

slackermonkey
11-23-2004, 07:26 PM
Haven't watched it yet. I like to save them until right before I go to bed. It's a habit.

Isn't there a place on the website where you can check store availability?

slackermonkey
11-23-2004, 09:37 PM
That sucks.

Guess you'll have to wait 'til tomorrow then, and get by on Friends season 6.

slackermonkey

Grrrrreat.

You've got a lot of catching up on DVDs to do.

Did you finally give in to starting Friends season 6 last night?

These Seinfeld DVDs are fantastic.

Definitely get the 'Best of TV on DVD' Award this year.

Surprisingly, I have nothing to say. That's why I was hoping someone else would say something.

Well somebody said something and it wasn't you or me.... so we've done something.

slackermonkey

And I suppose something's better than nothing, as long as it came from somebody and not nobody.

What were we talking about again?

(I've just realized how MIA you've been in this thread lately. That's been leaving me to have discussions with myself, which makes me... psychotic.)

Between Seinfeld, Frasier, visiting relatives, and a ****load of homework -- I haven't been online much.

slackermonkey
11-26-2004, 10:41 PM
I can't decide which is worse -- high school homework or college homework. You get more in high school, but in college it's usually harder.

How are your Seinfeld and Frasier DVDs?

It's not hard, just time-consuming.

As for the DVDs.... I'm about half way through Frasier, and on the second episode of Disc 2 of Seinfeld.

I've hardly watched my Seinfeld DVDs. :( I'm a bad fan. Between Thanksgiving and school stuff, I haven't had time to watch much of it.

This is part of the reason I'm glad I don't watch too many shows. I can't imagine what it'd be like to have like 30 favorites on DVD and have to keep up with all of them.

Wow, so much has been going on here....

slackermonkey, are you going to become a moderator for this board? You should.

Brian Damage
11-28-2004, 10:44 PM
I think you deserve it. Where the heck is the moderator of this board anyway? They should be fired on the spot!

Brian Damage

I just checked and the moderator's last post was 11/9!!! And it wasn't even here, it was on the Golden Girls board.

slackermonkey

Not sure. I would love to, but I always assumed if they wanted/needed me to be moderator, they'd ask me.

slackermonkey

I just sent TJ a PM asking about changing the header. Maybe he'll see some of these posts and make me a moderator. Who knows.

Brian Damage
11-28-2004, 11:20 PM
If you want it, you have to take the first step and ask for it.

slackermonkey
11-28-2004, 11:22 PM
I had no idea, I thought I would have to be approached.

Who do I ask?

Brian Damage

TJ

Thanks, guys.

I've been telling the guys at Friends Boards about this place, to bring in some more activity here, so hopefully it'll work out.

And don't worry, these are the typical fangirlish Friends fans you usually come across on the internet. I think they'd fit right in here.

And I love the new board pic.

I just caught this... this should be "they aren't the typical fangirls," not "are." That made my post unintentionally funny when I prefer to be funny on purpose.

And yeah, the new pic is great. Very Christmas-y, no? By the way, as a mod, am I able to change the pic whenever I want, or is that something only TJ can do?

I got Season 8 the other day, I watched enough episodes to review it.... but I didnt watch it all.

I'm still not done with Season 6, but I will finish it soon. (I'm on Disc 2)

Which seasons are your favorites? I like Season 5 the best overall but thought 1-4 were good too. 6-10 weren't the best, but I like them well enough.

Season 5 is my favorite, followed by 4.

I agree, 6-10 weren't quite as good.
Season 2 was the worst of the first 5.

Seasons, from best to worst: (keep in mind I haven't seen every episode)

Season 5
Season 4
Season 6
Season 1
Season 3
Season 8
Season 2
Season 7
Season 9
Season 10

I finished Season 6.... one of my favorites.

Maybe it's an acquired taste, but Phoebe definately grew on me this season.

But, I do have to say.... if her character from "The One That Could Have Been", was what she always was, the show would be so much better.

And does anyone else find it odd that in episodes like "The One With Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E.", they seem to remember "The One That Could Have Been"??

slackermonkey
12-05-2004, 08:02 PM
Yeah, from about the middle of season 5 on, the writers started making Phoebe become a little more real and a little more edgy. I don't know if that's what you picked up on, but she definitely started evolving around that time.

You mean the hug sequence with Joey & Chandler? I always thought that was weird too. I guess the producers or whoever just liked that hug and threw it in there.

slackermonkey
12-05-2004, 09:29 PM
"TOW Chandler Can't Cry," I believe.

"Oh my God, what am I doing?!"

In these later seasons, you learn a lot about Phoebe's past, and it's always surprisingly dark... but in a funny way.

I don't watch Friends at all in syndication. This will make the DVDs all the more enjoyable as I've only seen a handful of Season 9/10 episodes.

slackermonkey

I don't either. My watching is limited to the DVDs, and for the unreleased seasons, the original NBC airings that I have on my computer.
