what are shows that cost is keeping you from wanting to check out on DVD?

offhand for me:
I Love Lucy ($30-40 range, I'd buy it in, no $100)
The X-Files (if I found them in the $40-55 range, usually what you see Fox hour long titles go for, I'd get it. But not over $100)
The Golden Girls ($25-32 maybe, $50 you're kidding me)
Six Feet Under ($40-50 would be reasonable, $99 is not)

anyone else?

Don't forget though that for the Golden Girls that's just MSRP, it's much cheaper on amazon.com and other places, $49.99 isn't set in stone ;) I got my BMW Season 1 DVD which was priced for $49.99 for about $35 but I know people who got it for about $30 or less it just depends where you get it from.

I think $50.00 is the limit for me on a season set of a tv show :)

Every TV DVD, give or take a few, on Deep Discount DVD is reasonably priced for me. The Star Trek DVDs and the first season of Lost in Space are probably the only significant exceptions.

The Monkees - Season 1 and The Monkees - Season 2

If they were in the $25-40 range, Id get em.
But $70?! No thanks. Maybe someday.

Another insane price, that I will eventually cave-in to....
$120 for Monty Python's Flying Circus - The Complete Series.

Same. I got Season 1 for Christmas so I didn't have to fork over the money. I'm going for Season 2 this Christmas.

I have some interest in seeing some british shows like The Avengers, The Prisoner, and some other britcoms, but they seem so overpriced.

Star Trek is $100 a season, and I love the show, but I cant see myself putting down that much money for one season...

In most places Saved By the Bell was $50 for two seasons, I like SBTB, but not that much.....

Me too. I'd love to have a Next Gen and DS9 collection, but that's way too much money. My landlord likes to be paid once in a while.

Six Feet Under. Janice has said great things about it, and I'm sure it's wonderful, but I just can't justify a blind buy at that price.

SCTV Network 90: Vol 1 is the only one I can think of. I've never seen the show, but I like the cast (Rick Moranis, John Candy, Joe Flaherty, et al) and I enjoy sketch comedy so I'd probably like it. I think it was around $66 at Best Buy, which I'm not willing to plunk down for a blind buy...yet. :p

if you'd have told me earlier... FYE (a music and movies store that specializes in both new and used) here had a used copy of QL season 1 for just $15.99 but somebody else alreay snatched it. At least season 2, which was a full season, will be going for the same price.

Target had QL for $45 which is still high but much better than $60 :)

IMO they should have combined the first two seasons together, since the first season was so short

Yeah, I was going by the price found at Suncoast...I know Target has them...but meangya. $45 for 8 episodes...

I paid like $40 for Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 1, and it only has 10 episodes.

I agree with everyone who has mentioned the various Star Trek incarnations. I would love to have a complete collection on DVD to replace the worn out VHS copies of Star Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation I have. But it is way too much.

Also, Babylon 5. Five seasons at $80 a pop is almost as bad as Star Trek. You can get the complete series for $400 on Amazon. Yay?

Additionally, Freaks and Geeks. The Internet only yearbook edition was about $127 and although I purchased it (twice!) it did not work and I had to return it. The regular edition is still something like $50 - $70 depending on where you get it. For only 18 episodes that just does not seem worth it, sadly.

I agree, but I believe cleared music rights (all original music, and there was lots of it, was cleared for the DVD) is part of why F&G was so costly.

not a fan of the show, but I can't believe Paramount's charging $89.99 for 7th Heaven, when many companies have set a "standard" of $59.99 for a 22-24 episode season for an hour-long series, with few exceptions (Star Trek, X-Files) being higher with the "but it's such a cult show" excuse... I don't exactly think of 7th Heaven as a show that inspires geek devotion that way, so what was Paramount's logic for making it so costly? Thank god I'm locked into Charmed on Stephen's site because knowing Paramount and the fact it is actually a "cult series", it won't be cheap, lol.

Indeed. I read it cost $1,000,000 for the music rights for Freaks and Geeks.

but still then, $70 is a little much to get blind-buyers into it, since F&G is a show that really found it's audience once it was cancelled.

Not for me, but then I didn't pay $70 for it. I'm pretty sure it was $45-$55 when I bought it from amazon.com, definitely under $60.

EDIT - Just checked, I paid $48.99 for it on amazon, and it's $52.49 now.

 According to amazon.com 7th Heaven's MSRP was $64.99

The Sopranos -- if priced under $50, I'd blind-buy it. But $90 is WAY too much.

Same thing for Six Feet Under.

offhand for me:
I Love Lucy ($30-40 range, I'd buy it in, no $100)

my my, how time changes. Season 3 is on sale at Target this week for $39.99, and the overpriced season 1 is getting reissued in May in better compact packaging.

Is season 3 a good season to blind-buy Lucy with? I'm not completely blind with Lucy, but I've probably seen less than 20 episodes total.

That seems like a reasonable price, and when you think about it...The 1st season had 25 episodes. The preorder MRSP there is just a few dollars above what you would normally see at Target.

I do know one thing for sure...I'm buying MacGyver ($30!!!!!!!!!! ) and one of the seasons of Gilmore Girls before I plunk down $ for HTH. Maybe later this summer, since I won't be in school. :)

If I don't get it when it comes out, or in the summertime, I"ll ask for it for Xmas. Heh heh.

Season 3 is the best of those released. Although the Hollywood season (4) is my favorite.

Just want to point out....
And if "I Love Lucy" goes down in price.... (maybe with a repackaging) Ill definately pick it up.

repackaging ILL was MY idea.

I'd probably have Who's the Boss?: Season 1 if it were around $25. (most places around here want $32-35 for it, i believe) I paid $25 for Diff'rent Strokes and the first two Married with Children sets, and I really enjoy those shows, while I'm only a casual WTB? fan. (all sets are from Sony)

Also, I'm a casual Boy Meets World fan these days, but the DVD sets are a bit too pricey for my tastes. I'm usually not willing to spend around $40 for a single sitcom season on DVD. (unless its an all-time fave like Roseanne or something) Hour-long comedy/drama shows are a different story tho. I have no qualms about spending around $40-50 for shows like Freaks and Geeks and Gilmore Girls.

All of the shows I like, basically. If everything wasn't between $30 and $50, I'd probably buy more sets, but the only thing I got is Three's Company's first season, which was only $15 (because it only had six episodes and no extras). Actually, I wish more of my favorite shows would come out without any extras, because they obviously jack the prices up.
