Best:

The Fold out trays that comlumbia Tri-star always uses, I like unfolding the whole set and picking a disc.

worst:

Alf, The Man Show
Their packaging is too weird, with the discs on top of each other, when I bought Alf all of the sets had loose discs on the shelf, good thing none of the discs were scratched...

Colombia Tri Star I love how they packaged the WTB DVD :D

Also Buena Vista did a great job with the BMW DVD

both had attractive eye catching covers :)

worst is without a doubt the Sex And The City DVD's. I have been lucky so far, but I have other friends who have had their break. They are 100% plastic and really dificult to open without worrying about a piece snapping off. But... I love the series, so I have to deal with it.

I also don't care for the Pink Lady And Jeff case, it's way too oversized (basically two of the old-school "big" cases like Disney used to do for their 2-disc sets before they switched to regular cases put together) for just three discs.

Everything else, I am cool with, but I really hate the Sex packaging

The Dick Van Dyke Show DVDs has awesome packaging. They make the whole box look like an old TV set.

I agree, and for anything with more than 4 discs -- slimcases are the way to go.

Worst -- Saved by the Bell - Seasons 1&2 -- it ripped from the sticker.
Just terrible.

Its when the DVDs are all in their individual cases, about half as thin as a "normal" DVD case.

They're used with all the new Paramount DVDs, Family Guy, Diff'rent Strokes

That's what I was thinking, doesn't A&E use slimcases as well? I thought they did with Dr. Quinn, and I think they did with Ellen

I don't know about Dr. Quinn, but from what I've heard, yes Ellen will use them.

Favorite: The Slimcases

I don't care for the fold out packages. (Cheers, Frasier)

To be specific, I DON'T like the ALF package, nor the Sliders package. Two great shows but I hate their packaging.

I'm also not big on the book like packages. (examples, Everybody Loves Raymond, Three's Company 2, Spider-Man 60's)

Worst:
Definitely the ALF boxset.
Jem Seasons 1 & 2, there are too many flips and folds.
And even though I don't have any, but I wouldn't want any DVD boxset that has awkward shaped packaging. I understand that companies just try to make them look neat and appealing, but one of the many perks of TV shows on DVD is to have compact packaging that can be stored easily in a shelf or rack.

Best:
The slimline cases (such as with Mork & Mindy, Charlie's Angels, and Diff'rent Strokes), you can just take one out, take the disc out, and slip it back in the box.

Fold out packaging is OK. I don't hate it but I don't love it.

The SBTB 1/2 and 3/4 packaging SUCK!!!!!! :thumbsdow

I don't like Curb Your Enthusiasm's packaging, either...pulling out the discs and having the trays come out of either sides...That pisses me off for some reason. I just don't like it at all.

Whenever I dislike a DVD's packaging, I'll usually just store my discs in individual slimline jewel cases. I did this most recently with Curb Your Enthusiasm to prevent wear on the packaging and the Freaks And Geeks "Yearbook Edition" to prevent scratching on the discs.

As far as I've seen, my favorite packaging goes to The Dick Van Dyke Show season sets. Slimcases are my favorite type of display, and I like how they put an individual picture and episode titles onto the case; it really sets the mood for the show. I also like the holographic images on the cover.

By far ALF: Season 1 has the worst packaging, the discs overlap each other, they're loose and the typer display can cause damage to the disk. However, the disc art wasn't bad but the cover art was kind of bland.

The Monkees. I didn't like that at all.

The idea was clever, but I don't want to slide my DVDs out like an LP. They're much too vulnerable to scratches.

What, I'd like to ask, in your honest opinion, are some of the best and worst of television DVD packaging methods?

Get Smart gets the worst nod from me. I had damaged hubs that made it impossible to keep all the discs in place.

I am the opposite, I love the packaging but you are right about being vulneable to scratches but I love the packaging because it is different than other DVD sets

I have to say the worst packaging is Alf, Family Ties, and Undertaker DVD set

Best--I like the fold out cases and I think the Monkees packaging is interesting.

Worst--has to be Munsters 2

Best:
- Slimcases

Worst:
- Digipacks used for The Golden Girls, etc. with overlapping discs
- ALF giant snapcase packaging
