Would it be perfectly legal I wonder, for a different show to take all or many of the cases and info from UM and do their own follow ups, etc.? UM has shown a complete lack of interest in updating regardless of how much their viewers have begged and pleaded. Citizens around the world have shown a big interest in the solving of crimes (AMW, CSI, COLD CASE, etc.) that I cant imagine it being unsuccessful.

I'm not sure. Maybe it would be legal. If Cold Case Files or one of the other shows bought the rights to the show from the people of Unsolved Mysteries. The only unfortunate thing is Unsolved Mysteries would have to be willing to sell the rights of the show or at least the cases that are shown. It would be nice if AMW or Cold Case Files could air those cases someday. I have seen so many repeats on Unsolved Mysteries that it's getting really boring. I've even stopped watching the show because I realize that they are all repeats. I flip to the program now and then when it's on to see if any new cases are being covered, but it's always the same cases.

Unsolved Mysteries does not have a monopoly on true crime. Other programs can use the same case and apply their narrative and dramatic re enactment. An example is the murder of Shannon Mohr Davis in 1980. It was featured on Unsolved Mysteries and the New Detectives.
