Lions Gate has released the first season of ALF. That's great news and I bought the DVD happily. However, the episodes are edited! Most shows, uncut come to 24-25 minutes. ALF was only 22 minutes, without commercials. Why would Lions Gate give us edited versions? They did the same with Saved by the Bell. They, for most episodes used the syndicated opening and cut up episodes.

Down with Lions Gate!!!!!!!!!

We should do something, I just don't know what.

Anybody angry with me?

Why would they do something like that? Is is cheaper for Lion's gate to put the edited eps on DVD?

That's just stupid. One of the best things about DVDs of TV shows is being able to watch the original Network TV cut instead of the shortened syndicated ones.

 :yeahthat

I mean if we wanted them cut up, we'd tape them off the networks(if they air on tv). They probably figure since ALF isn't on tv, we would take it anyway we could get it.

Adam you and any other ALF fans, outta write to Lion's Gate and complain

I saw scenes on my SBTB DVD that I had never seen before, so I don't think they're cut.

They should run 24 minutes, if they don't they are chopped.
All shows form that time period run between 23:30 and 24:30.
This is the main reason I didn't buy the set, although I was looking forward to it before reading the reviews.

Some of the episodes might be uncut, I don't know. But I do know that at least one episode had a scene cut out. It's a scene that was cut out of syndication, and I was looking forward to seeing the scene again and was disappointed when it wasn't there. I know that some SBTB episodes have their original opening credits. Maybe those episodes are uncut. But like I said, I'm not sure.

I think Warner is equally to blame.

I just went to TV Shows on DVD.com and that article was removed. It said Lions Gate is coming up with a better explanation.

I'm not as mad as I was, but it still sucks. At least they're addressing the matter.

That might be a good sign, maybe they're getting enough flack for this, that they'll decide to re release it uncut :D

There would be my complaint. Some of the episodes have original openings, some don't. That's just dumb.

I just thought of something. How about someone create a petition from petitiononline.com asking Lion's Gate to release ALF uncut?

I discovered that Lions Gate's release of "Will and Grace" Season Two was edited. I compared it to a broadcast version of an episode I had taped. Not only was there edits in the episode itself, but the episode originally aired as 1 hour and on the DVD it was cut into two parts with a "to be continued" at the end of the 1st half.

I understand why people are upset... but I also don't understand why people would boycott it over this.

This is NOT Cosby Show, NOT Roseanne, NOT Seinfeld, NOT Friends, NOT Cheers, NOT The Golden Girls. Most of us haven't seen the complete ALF series in over a decade.

Considering the DVD is only $19 with free shipping at DeepDiscountDVD, if I had enough of an ALF craving, I'd buy it. I mean, if The Facts Of Life were to come out on DVD but cut... I'd buy it if it's cheap enough because I really want the show and it's not airing anywhere anymore, so it's not like it's something I can watch anytime I want on cable (tho I hope Columbia doesn't read this and decides to slack).

Like tvshowsondvd.com said though, if Lions Gate was so hellbent on saving money, why include the useless slipcover??

AND, not to mention -- this was the worst packaging for a TVDVD ever.

BUT, I got my ALF fix, Im not happy about it, but I'll take it.
The unaired pilot and gag reel were nice

I'll say this. If I want to see a TV show cut up, I'll watch it on TV for free (although it isn't me that's paying for the cable TV), even if it means waiting years for it to air. I'm not going to spend money even at the Deep Discount DVD price for a show that runs the same length as you'd find it on Hallmark or TV Land. There are some people who aren't fortunate enough to afford to buy a lot of TV DVD sets. I'm one of them. $19.99 is too much for me to spend for an edited series.

but that's just it. ALF doesn't air on Hallmark or TV Land, it's just one of those shows that pretty much the only way you're going to watch it in 2004 unless you've taped them all is the edited versions on DVD. If I was to choose between edited episodes for a show I love that doesn't air anywhere in the world, or no episodes at all, I'd go for the edited ones.

I'm one of those people that are willing to wait, whether it would take a few months or a few years. Yes ALF isn't on Hallmark, TV Land, or any other cable channel right now. Until it does air, there will be other TV show DVD sets that I'll buy that feature uncut episodes (or sets with an episode or two with edits like "Sanford and Son").

Like I said before, money is involved when buying these sets. It's 19 something bucks buying it from Deep Discount DVD, as you already know. I don't know about your financial well-being but I can't afford to buy too many DVD sets. I've been unemployed for over a year now and still looking for a job and my income comes from working at home and a weekly allowance of $5. Even that doesn't pay very well. If I had a job that payed better and if I had a lot of money saved up, maybe I would consider buying the ALF set to keep me busy until they could release it uncut. I have a feeling that they'll go that extra mile and re-release that set uncut, seeing that they know that fans aren't happy about the first set. Until then, I don't feel like spending money for edited episodes for the time being when there are a lot of other sets that boast uncut episodes.

This is one of those situations where I can see both sides. I understand people not buying the DVDs because they are edited. And yet I can also see people buying them because it's "ALF" DVDs and the show has not been on for a long time. I didn't have Oddysey when they showed "ALF." So since ALF's ending in 1990, I've only seen about 10 episodes scattered throughout the years.

Yeah I can understand too.......but if people are willing to settle for whatever Lion's Gate puts out, what's to stop them from doing this to any future releases they put out? If they think people will buy these edited because they can't see that show on tv anywhere, then they'll do it.

Lion's Gate seems the type to take a mile when you give them an inch
