View Full Version : Sitcom Characters You WISHED Had Left the Series

There have been some threads around here stating which characters you missed or didn't miss. This one is which character did you want to miss, but couldn't.

Although I liked Potsie, by the end of "Happy Days" he wasn't used that much. For the show (not the actor) they should have given him a farewell episode and sent him packing.

I wish Joey Gladstone would have left "Full House" maybe half way through it's run. He got on my nerves after a while. I think for his character, he should have gotten married and moved out. Or at least got a comedian job and moved away.

"Saved by the Bell" fans will hate me. But I wish Screech would have left the show before senior year. He was fine until then. He got too annoying and I didn't find him funny. Give Zack a new sidekick, maybe a foreign exchange student. A Latka Gravas type character. Of course, it might be too much since Kelly and Jessie left the senior year.

If I think of more, I'll add them later.

Have to say, Seinfeld, everyone but Kramer, IMO he was the only one worth watching, and the only funny one.

Cheers: Rebecca, I think I'm the only who couldn't stand her :)

The Cosby Show: Olivia, did they really need a Rudy clone?

Three's Company: Terri Alden, never liked the character.

How about Screech on The New Class? I could take him on the original SBTB but on the New Class as Belding's assistant, with all the Yikes, Zoinks and facial expressions, he became unbearable on that show. When I'd watch the show, I'd always turn the volume down when he was in a particular scene because he irritated me that much.

I agree about Joey. Once Jesse got married, he was like a 5th wheel...even if Danny was single.

 I don't hate you. I was too busy watching Zack to notice how annoying Screech was.

I agree. If she was supposed to replace Jessie and Kelly, it didn't work. Tori and Lisa didn't really make great best friends.

The following characters overstayed their welcome on their respective series:

1. Wilson Wilson on Home Improvement. Although I was sad that the actor who played him, namely Earl Hindman, passed away in late December :crying: , I thought he was unnecessary for the show. The fact that Tim always went outdoors to talk to him about a problem made Home Improvement all the more predictable, as well as a waste of the ABC airwaves. I remember the episode where he was about to move to Ecuador, only to change his mind! I was MAD!!!

2. Christine Armstrong Fox on Coach. She always seemed to get in the way of the football-related plotlines on this show. One episode that stands out was the one where she turned on the late night news and found out that the hockey game that evening (Minnesota North Stars, most likely; it was before the Wild came about) was canceled. At the same time Hayden went to the said game (or, at least, we thought he did), he told Christine how the game went, then she went on about the game being canceled :angryfire, exposing the liar that Hayden was. Why Hayden married that hag I do not know. Did she still have that gig with Good Morning Minnesota when Hayden accepted the Orlando Breakers job? Hayden should have left her back in cold Minnesota. :mumble:

Don't get me started on little T. D.:explode:

3. Rose, Jeffrey, and Serena Burton on The Waltons. The series should have been renamed The Burtons after they took over the show after Olivia (the mother) left, soon to be followed by John (the father). They should have been on for one episode, but they overstayed their welcome by becoming main characters for the last two seasons.

4. Lori Beth whoever on Happy Days. That Shirley Feeney wannabe was not right for Richie C. in my estimation.

5. Lily Lambert on Step By Step. Why Frank and Carol had a baby after most of their children were already college-age is beyond me. She took up too much of the show after she was born.

6. Olivia on The Cosby Show. Like Lily Lambert, she took over the show and directed attention away from the original characters.

Ross on Friends, he brought the show down and wasn't funny

Harvey on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, he's just annoying

Gary on What I Like About You because he's not funny

Moonlight Lady

Sam and Maggie-Different Strokes: Maggie was too tough and Sam was a whiner.

Diane-Cheers: Too smart for her own good.

Miss Maloney-Facts of Life: What was the point of her being there.

Beau DeLaBarre-Welcome Back Kotter: He was supposed to be the new sweathog--I don't buy it.

Sonny St. Jacques-Laverne and Shirley: Why bother, I don't think he even lasted one season, he was boring.

Levitt-Barney Miller: He was just annoying the way he kept bugging Barney to make him a detective.

Oliver Douglas-Green Acres: I know he was one of the main characters but I never liked him, he was a mean bugger.
If he was so annoyed by the Hooterville people, he should've just stayed on Park Avenue.

Gloria and Mike Stivic--That crying she did was like nails on a chalkboard and he was a meathead.

He was one of my favorite characters!!
I loved when Tim would muck up what Wilson was trying to tell him.
Hilarious.

As for my picks.....

Olivia and Pam on The Cosby Show.
I think having Denise arrive back home from Africa married was a great storyline -- but they shouldve had her be pregnant rather than a step-child.
As for Pam.... :barf:

Kimmy on Full House.
She never made me laugh, and was just seemed to weird to be DJ's friend.
Not funny.

I agree. Once Jesse and Rebecca got married -- there was no need to have 4 adults in the house.
Actually, after Michelle turned 3 or 4, Danny shouldve been able to handle the kids on his own.

Grady on Sanford and Son ... he was annoying.

Mr. Bentley on The Jeffersons ... he served no purpose on the show. The character should have never been created in the first place.

Rhonda on Laverne & Shirley ...same as Mr. Bentley.

Little Earl and Big Earl on What's Happening. Two very annoying characters.

Sam and Maggie on Diff'rent Strokes

Cloris Leachman on The Facts of Life....She was no Mrs. G!

Susan on Seinfeld...very unfunny....I was happy they killed her off.

I remember seeing a few episodes of Family Matters and saying How can I watch this show with this Erkel character. He has this high pitch winey voice. Little did I know the rest of world thought he was great and he remained til the shows end. I instead switched the channel

Pippa- The Facts of Life. She was the most annoying character on the show, besides Kelly.
Olivia- The Cosby Show. She was NO Rudy, she was an annoying little brat.
Joey- Full House. He was such a useless character, at least Jesse and Danny had things happen to them. Nothing happened to him at all, he was just...there.

Eek. She's my favorite female Friend too.

It would've been nice if Rebecca had left Cheers - or better yet, if she hadn't joined at all. Lilith should have had a bigger part and taken over the main female role. They should left Sam with his stupid bimbo girlfriends - he didn't need a female co-star.

As I take it -- Kirstie Alley never "co-starred" with Ted Danson.

Seasons 1-5.... Ted and Shelley were the leads.
Seasons 6-11.... Ted was the lead.

I wouldve liked it if Rebecca had never joined the series, but Id rather her character just have been reworked. I think they shouldve had her be the daughter of the owner of the big corporation that bought Cheers. Then have her be a terrible boss, who gets nothing do. With no ambitions, and only working because it makes her feel usefull -- but she would never have the job if her father didnt own the place.

Rhonda on Laverne and Shirley

anyone who was cast after Delta Burke left designing women...sorry Suzanne was it!!!!!! no Julia Duffy.

and a message to those who said monica and especially ross...on friends...i couldn't even imagine friends if either was gone...monica and her competitiveness and ross and his pettiness were a driving comical force of the show.plus they were both part of two great couples......r/r and m/c

Umm...:

Lilly on Step by Step: like most people have said... it was annoying that she just like came in the middle of the series and grew up like 5 years a season later and was supposed to be the 'cute little kid' character. I'd rather Brendon than her most of the time. It still confuses me why he wasn't in the last season.

Joey on Full House: Once again... like most people here have said... he was kinda a useless character. I didn't find any of his cartoon impressions funny or anything.

That martini drinking dummy Nick Moore from Family Ties. Because he had stolen Skippy's woman.

Steven Hyde from That 70's Show. Because he's none other than an old creepy little b@$t@rd who's dating a girl seven years younger.

1. MICHELLE ON "FULL HOUSE" - They should have sent the little brat off to a eating disorder hospital (She was ALWAYS stuffing her face) and maybe after that they could have shipped her off to boot camp for Elementary kids... let's see her reply "DUH!!!" with that snotty little look on her face to one of her drill instructors.

2. OLIVIA ON "THE COSBY SHOW" - Just what we all wanted. Another "I'm-so-cute-I-can-gag" kid who gets all the laughs and the "aww moments." Gag me! Send her off to the Huxtable's neighbors, and tell her to take Cousin Pam with her.

3. ROSS ON "FRIENDS" - Screaming "We were on a break!!!!!!!" was just as annoying the first time as it was the millionth time. Chandler once had the perfect response.... "Oh my GOD!!! If you say that one more time, I will break up with you too!"

I think it's for the best that the show got cancelled. Having Ginger be rescued but not the other castaways would have been horrible.

If they did go on with a fourth season without Tina Louise, they should have had her be attacked by an animal, and then the professor performs surgery giving her an all new face.

Céline
02-01-2005, 07:27 PM
I have to disagree.Schwarthz had a script already written about Ginger. She was going to be rescue by an Hollywood's producer and 2 women would been shipwreck. They could done the show without Ginger. It would been an interesting change for the show.

OK, last post about Ginger.... but I have a solution if she got rescued from the island. She accidently bumps her head and loses her memory.... therefore, she can't report the 6 missing cast aways on the island.

Lily Lambert ("Step by Step") and Olivia on :Cosby" were sitcom staples: when the kids get older, new/younger ones come along. That said, here are two characters that should've neen bumped: Jenny Piccolo ("Happy Days") and Kimmy Gibbler ("Full House"). Those tramps annoyed me, especially the way Kimmy threw herself at GROWN MEN.

The following characters overstayed their welcome on their respective series:

6. Olivia on The Cosby Show. Like Lily Lambert, she took over the show and directed attention away from the original characters.

I strongly disagreed about Christine Armstrong Fox. She was the voice of reason for Hayden Fox's irrational way of thinking. Every sitcom needs a voice of reason. The problem I had with the character was she fell into the trap of most sitcoms wives that the character becomes underdeveloped with not much depth to them. That happened to the character shortly after her and Hayden got married and you saw less of her on the show. Plus, personally, I always Shelley Fabares was a hottie especially when she was on One Day At A Time.

Olivia I strongly agree on. She got on my nerves with that adult like dialogue and Cosby's mugging with her was tiring to watch. It was out of place to keep Olivia there after Martin and Denise were no longer on the show. That got far fetched and I was glad that did not go on another season.

Someone had posted that they wished Ms. Mahoney from THE FACTS OF LIFE had left the show. If you check on www.tvtome.com/Facts Of Life , you will see in the shows information that she left the show around 1979. She was only on the show for about 4 episodes.

To the person who said Ross on Friends....ross was one of the major characters...his whininess is what made him funny...he was a master at physical comedy yet he also could touch you with moments like his child being born or breaking up after he had cheated...there was definite chemistry with all his co stars....

Pippa and Andy(The Facts of Life)-They were useless, zero talented, annoying, and took over the whole show!

Martin and Olivia Kendall(The Cosby Show)-Martin was stiff, whiny, and a wuss. Olivia was a smartass brat who looked like the circus dresses her.

Pam(The Cosby Show)- Huxtables gone hip-hop? Give me back the so called white bread Huxtables. Pam and her jive talking friends were better suited for that Nick show Roundhouse or Yo! MTV raps.

Joey Gladstone(Full House)-We get it, you are a corny ass comedian.
Steve Urkel(Family Matters)- 'nuff said.
Mark and David Healy(Roseanne)-Okay maybe not Mark but David was such a wuss, he should have been shopping in the young women's department at the Gap or whatever hip store back then.

BJ on MASH. He is an annoying, whiny wuss. The show also would have been better the last couple of seasons if Hawkeye wasn't around.

Cheers: Rebecca, I think I'm the only who couldn't stand her :)

Three's Company: Terri Alden, never liked the character.

I completely agree with both of those! Rebecca got on my nerves too! I could add Lorie (Eric's sister) of the 70's show, but they kind of got rid of her and just replaced her with a more annoying actress LOL
