I wonder if you'd have such a passionate hatred if you saw the THREE MEN AND A COMIC BOOK episode from season 2. Those who actually give Simpsons a chance would know what I'm referring to (Wonder Years related)

There's a big difference between not liking a show and thinking a show is overrated.
The Jackie Thomas Show is NOT overrated. Hell, hardly anybody knows what it is.

exactly, the only people these days who know what Jackie Thomas is are people who are huge Roseanne fans and were back in 1992-1993. It's not exactly a show that had a long life and picked up new generations of fans.

As someone who saw the travesty... there's nothing to overrate about it, the only decent episode they had was when Roseanne played a stalker.

1950's:
I Love Lucy. Shoot me, it may be the greatest sitcom ever, but the fans are so cocky in rubbing in that fact

1960's
Andy Griffith. Being born and raised in the mid-west, this is the most overplayed tv series of all time

1970's
All In The Family. Agree that it's good but just not something I love

1980's
The Cosby Show. I like most of Cosby, but it is the most overrated 80's sitcom bar none
The Golden Girls. As a gay man with a lot of gay frienss, you know just how overexposed this show is. I usually just roll my eyes when they start talking about all time fave GG episodes
Growing Pains. Family Ties RIP-OFF
Night Court. It was great in it's early seasons, but should've ended about 4 years earlier... it got tacky towards the end.

1990's
Home Improvement. Never liked Tim Allen.
Boy Meets World. Didn't know a soul who watched it when it aired, but now that it's been off awhile, suddenly a "classic"?
Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air. Not a Will Smith fan
Full House/Family Matters. They're the same, so I'll limp them together. Both were funny... WHEN I WAS 11.

2000's
reality tv programming. ALL OF IT
Everybody Loves Raymond. Doris Roberts is the only cast member I can stand

I know you don't like Arrested Development (why I don't know... how that show, The Simpsons and Nip/Tuck can be "worse" than American Idol makes no sense to me), but I don't see how it can be overrated when it barely scores any ratings. The only reason Fox renewed it was because of a hardcore fan campaign to bring it back.

Oh well, maybe it's just because out of fear that it might steal from Emmys away from a REAL overrated lame "conventional" sitcom like Raymond

arrested development IS overrated. with critics and press people. they make it out be this great series, like they did seinfield and simpsons

Boy Meets World has yet to be called classic or labeled it, but it probably will if TGIF continues for a awhile longer. If anything it has and always has had a cult following, It's one of those shows that if viewer just like one season they tend to come back to it which most of them did to pressure for dvd sets.. but i certainly dont see this as overrated, the fans, the press, the cast and crew never treated it like this all=holy comedy except maybe ABC/Disney.. Where as with SeinField they did and still do

but reading at some of these comments i dont think people fully understand what overrated means, because it's viewership is just ONE way a series can be overrated but there is other ways.. that give it the ultimate overrated label

1950's: Leave It To Beaver
1960's: Andy Griffith Show, Dick Van Dyke Show
1970's: Happy Days, Brady Bunch
1980's: Cheers, Cosby Show, Golden Girls, Roseanne
1990's: Quit watching new shows so from here on, I couldn't say.

As for the person who earlier mentioned he was gay, I can confirm that The Golden Girls is WAY overexposed. As a conservative gay person (pretty rare, I know), I get more enjoyment out of Archie Bunkers take on gay people than on The Golden Girls. How in the hell could someone in their 70's living in the 1980's and 1990's not know what a lesbian is?? Give me a break. Lifetime screwed us out of Laverne & Shirley so they could go back to airing The Golden Girls and The Nanny a zillion times a day. L&S was the only reason I ever watched Lifetime. I wish some of these "women's" networks would pick up shows like: Maude, One Day At A Time, and Alice. That would be nice.

BMW has a huge following, and is one of TGIF's most popular sitcoms ever. ABC didn't give it royal treatment or anything. Also, I don't remember anyone ever calling it a "classic" if anything, because it's not Frasier or Seinfeld, or Cheers or Friends, it's not considered as important  If someone's never seen a certain show, I don't know how they can say it's overrrated ohno:

I would say if anyshow got way more hype than it deserved was Seinfeld, a show about nothing? PUHLEEZE! Seinfeld wasn't a big ratings hit at first, then suddenly the ratings pick up and it's the greatest show out there? the same things people say about Friends, they should be saying about Seinfeld too, cause it got way more hype than Friends ever did.

I'd love to see where BMW has been called a 'classic"? If anything the show gets bashed alot because it's not Friends, Frasier, Seinfeld or Cheers, because as we all know, a show has to be a smash hit to be a "classic" And considering the fact that Disney has treated BMW and it's fans like crap, oh yeah it's a classic

So true about Arrested Development, it's a pretty good show, but it gets way too much hype to me hype like that turns me off from wanting to watch something more.

50s: The Honeymooners

60s: Almost all of the rural sitcoms CBS loved so much

70s: Three's Co.

80s: Most of the shows (I'm not an 80s fan)

90s: Seinfeld and Home Improvement (like I said in another thread, I can't stand Jill. She ruined it.)

00s: Most of the shows...especially reality and NBC programming
