There's a poster on the wall for the Spike Lee film Do the Right Thing (1989). 'Martin Lawrence' played Cee on that film.
In episode 4.27 "Why Can't We Be Friends?", Martin and Gina go to the movies to see Thin Line Between Love and Hate, A (1996) and Martin comments on how he heard it was "the bomb". Martin Lawrence stars in the movie.
In the episode where Shenenah wins a date with Kid from Kid 'N Play, she asks, while slowing dance with him, "Would you kiss me? Just like you did to that lil' light-skinned girl on House Party (1990)?" That is a joke in reference to the fact that Tisha Campbell (Martin's girlfriend on the show) is the girl that Kid kissed on "House Party".
The episode "Goin' For Mine", which aired during the fifth and final season of "Martin", was actually a pilot for a proposed spin-off featuring Tichina Arnold. The series was not picked up by the network and never went into production.
