I have found a new respect for season 9 after watching it again on Nick @ Nite's Road Crew Summer!
I feel that Season 9 was Roseanne's way of showing how her life changed when she got the chance to star in her own show. i.e. winning the lottery was getting her show. Jackie dating the price was when her marraige to Bill Pentland was falling apart and she met Tom Arnold (Although now Roseanne admits that marraige should have never happened) Going to the Spa and New York and Martha's Vineyard was showing how she was becoming a customed to her new lifestyle. and so on and so forth. Any thoughts on this?????

I never thought of it that way. That is a very good theory. It all makes sense though.

Yea, alot of the end of the series relates to her life when she becomes famous. "Mornings become Obnoxious" was to symobize the beginning of her stardom as a stand-up. The bulemia joke was actully from her stand-up. In "Fights and Stuff". Roseanne says that she is going to put all of her energy into her TV show. In real life, Bill didn't like Roseanne doing stand-up or the TV show. I think that winning the lottery was when she became rich and famous. In "Millions from Heaven" she mentions all three of her husbands. She says she's going to dump Dan (Bill) for some paracidic pig (Tom), then dump him for some guy who's really young and buff (Ben). I think that Dan cheating on Roseanne was her idea of what her breakup with Bill was. In her second book it says that Bill cheated on her because she was too fat, but I don't know if that was what it was about. In "Lanford's Elite" I think that Edgar Wellman was supposed to represent Tom, because it says in her second book that when she first met Tom he was really handsome and in good shape, and i think the business deal was supposed to represent how he was a big part of her show. Also, throughout the whole series, Dan is supposed to be Roseanne's three husbands. At the beginning he's Bill. When Arnie kisses Roseanne, I think that was to represent how she began her relationship with Tom leaving Bill. At that point, Dan became Tom. I also think that after Roseanne gave birth to Jerry, Dan became Ben. One thing still puzzles me though. Dan has a heart attack and in the final episode Roseanne says that "Dan" didn't survive his heart attack. But none of her husbands had a heart attack, and none of them died. So that's still something I'm trying to figure out.

I think Dan having a heart attack was going to happen one way or another because John Goodman wanted out of the show at the end of the 8th season. He only agreed to do his season 9 work as a huge favor to Roseanne for nine years of work and friendship. Because John Goodman was always on Roseanne's side when she whether she was battling husbands or producers of the show. How do you think she would have done the show if John Goodman decided not to come back at all? Would they have still one the lottery? or would it have been totally different?

I really don't think the show would have gone on if John Goodman wouldn't come back. I bet alot of people would stop watching without him. He was such a big part of the show that it would be completely different without him.

yeah, I don't think it would have been the same without Dan being in the picture. He was one of the people who really made the show and the season wouldn't have lasted very long without.
I believe the ninth season is good. yeah, there are a couple of boring shows. But with the other shows, it totally makes up for the boring episodes. My favorite episode is from the ninth season. Everytime I see the episode, "the miracle", I cry. It is just emotional and I love it. :) I think 97 percent of the ninth season is awesome.
Just felt like I had to add my opinion. :happyface

Maybe Dan's death represented the end of the show for good. There can't be any reunion shows unless Dan comes back to life. Hey, it happens all the time on the soaps.

When watching the final episode and listening to Roseanne's monolouge I realized when she got to the part about Jackie being gay and the writing of her book it was actually an apology to her sister for being so mean and cruel to her years before when husband Tom Arnold demanded that she be fired. I read in Roseanne's 1994 book that Jackie's character was supposed to come out in about the 3rd season when Roseanne and her sister took over the show, but instead before that could happen Geraldine was fired. In her final monolouge Roseanne says 'She is my rock and i would not have made it this far without her' Sounds like an apology to me!

That monolouge makes me cry everytime. Especially the part about Jackie. Whenever the last ep is on I usually skip it. It's too emotional for me.

I enjoy the final season more than any other seasons, because the character developement in my favorite charactor: Darline. Pregnancy and marriage seems to make her mature from some smart ass kid into a real person that I actually would consider spending time with. It kind of humanized her.
People whine too much about the last couple of seasons. They were good. How long did you really want to watch some cranky housewife complain about bills with her husband and yell at her kids? I thought it was refreshing that there were so many changes in the show, personally.

Sometimes for me after watching the last episode I think I could never watch Roseanne again but then I see the first episode the next day then I just forget about the last episode and start again with the first one.

Roseanne- theme song lyrics from the last season
If what doesn't kill us is making us stronger,
We're gonna last longer
Than that greatest wall in China
Or that rabbit with the drum
If there's one thing that I've learned
While waiting for my turn,
It's that in each life some rain falls
But you also get some sun
And we'll make out better than okay
Hear what I say
Hey, any day
