I can already guess what half the board is going to say. These posts are getting old already. Move on to different topics. :o

American Idol has never managed a #1 finish in overall ratings. In the 18-35 demographic, yes, but overall ratings no.

I believe it has always been in the top ten (maybe top five) and this past season one of the weekly broadcasts averaged #2 overall for the season.

I'd have to say Seinfeld, personally. I've just never understood the hoopla surrounding that show.

according to TV Guide, AI was #1 last season, so that gets my vote

Fair enough. I'm looking at two different sources and getting two different answers. I think the problem is that one list is the total viewers and the other is the household rank. Either way, American Idol was darn close to the top so let's say it counts.

That being the case, add American Idol as a #1 show I think is overrated.

it's probably like 89-90 and 93-94 again. I know some sources that say Roseanne was #1 in 89-90, and others that say Cosby was #1 that season. And in 93-94, different sources say 60 Minutes and Home Improvement were #1.

That could very well be the case. The initial chart I lookedat had them seperated by .2; American Idol had a 14.7 while CSI had a 14.9 (or something like that). With a margin of error the two could easily be flip-flopped.

Simpsons was never any where near being the #1 show in America.

I had no idea it was #28 it's first season. For Fox, #28 in 1990 was VERY phenomenal

so true. The Simpsons and Married With Children... at the time were the only shows FOX had that got any type of attention or ratings. That is until 90210 put them on the map followed by Melrose Place, Party Of Five, The X-Files and Mad TV!
