View Full Version : "The Man Who Cried Wife"
"spontaneous"
the word was proven, unproven, used, and misused in this episode.
a man kills his wife in anger. he thinks she is haunting him so he hires dave and maddie to find her. her body is gone from the grave he put her in. eventually, we find that her sister had been the one getting to him. the man finally found out that he was not crazy. he did kill his wife. he was more secure knowing the truth than running from the facts.
good arguemants and the closing scene where we see dave and maddie's ideas of being spontanious and kissing each other made the episode better.
jack blessing debutes as the bluemoon employee mcgilicutty (however it is spelled).
alley mills guest stars as the sister. that makes two from "the wonder years".

I loved the whole discussion on spontaneity. That really worked for them...great stuff.

Such great discussions/disagreements between Maddie and David....
Great scene back at the office late at night where Maddie has been seething while waiting for David to return...and he comes sauntering in singing. She erupts and they have that great intense scene that ends with her slapping him and then her feeling very bad about it.
Yep, I do love that ending. Sexy, sweet, and special.

this was a very sexy, intellegent episode.
i'm a lot clearer on maddie and david and how they feel about each other.
i learned that maddie likes to think things threw, which i already knew, but i feel that what she is trying to be sure about is david.
and i learned that david thinks that chemistry is romantic and lovely, and i feel that's what he feels about maddie.
somehow, david sitting on her desk is an act of passion on his part. they way he almost squirms. wonderful to watch.
i learned that david thinks that not being spontaneous is a way of avoiding life. and maddie thinks that not thinking things threw is a way of having a ready made excuse when things don't come out right.
maddie:
david, what are you doing down there?
david:
if you gotta ask, i must not be doing it right.
i did find myself feeling like i was resisting the impulse not to reach out and smack that whiney guy who killed his wife.
the kissing at the end was very sexy. i rewound the tape and rewatched it a couple of times.
i now 'get' why maddie and david aren't dating (although-in a way- they are dating very seriously).
again moonlighting presented a debate where i agree with both of them equally.
i also learned that david thinks maddie is passionate, which of course she is. she really simmers very close to the surface.
This is one of my favorite episodes! What I remember most the first time I saw it is how excited I was when Maddie went over and kissed David! I thought "Finally!" Then they re-played it with David kissing her and I realized it was just a dream (for both of them)! They had the best tease going that I ever saw!

Did you notice how at the very end, each one agrees that the other's point of view has merit.... Maddie saying how she can see how waiting and thinking could be a way of avoiding making a decision and David comments that with spontaneity a little goes a long way.
Normally the audience comes to see how each one has a valid point, but hardly ever do M&D seem to admit that to each other. Sure they apologize sometimes and occasionally say "I was wrong," but it is rare that they both come to a mutual conclusion at the same time like they do here in The Man Who Cried Wife.
Another great episode. I agree that Maddie is passionate, she shows that in so many ways including the arguments. And that slap, horrible but I completely understand and it was so necessary to the story and developing the relationship between them.
If only one of them had really gone for that kiss instead of just dreaming ...
