In the beginning of the series (seasons 1,2,3) she was so sophisticated and nice...she had good manners and a voice that was okay. How did she turn so bitter and high-pitched annoying so fast...

I totally agree. First seasons her annoying Roseanne and Jackie was funny but then it seemed annoying. When Al left her she became almost unbearable.

I have a friend who watches Roseanne with me sometimes and every time that Bev comes on he says "didn't somebody shoot her yet?". LOL, she is pretty annoying, but that's her character! She's been like that since the beginning, but probably seemed worse after Al left her because she probably lost some sense of security, or something like that.

It happens a lot on TV shows. I can even cite another example from Roseanne: Mark started out as this almost intimidating bad-ass, but he turned into a blithering idiot.
