Half of those things could be classified in the 80's category. And I've done about 95% of those, plus about half for the 80's. :D I was almost 5 when 1990 rolled around and 14 when 1999 ended.


And I should explain something...Ducktales ended in 1990, it's more of a 80's thing because Ducktales started in 1987. One of my first memories is watching Ducktales. :D

those apply to me, i had no idea they were fads, let alone what a 'fad' was. and i thought alot of those just applied to youngsters but i was 0-10 in the 90's so yeah.

In fairness, some of these are really 80s trends, that just happened to carry over into '91-'92 (IMO: The 80s didn't really completely go away until around 1994)

Fads were sometimes different in the UK, and I can't remember early 90's (except several little memories irrelevant to the time)- but the rest I remember. Btw- I've seen shows from the 80's and 90's- and is it just me, or did the early 90's seem kind of like a cheap imitation, teeny-bopper version of the 80's?

Anyway, I remember Tamogatchi (I had one, lived for quite a while- devestated when it died). Also, the late 90's was the height of the Pokemania! I remember the slap-bands, had one. Also, the saying 'NOT' after every sentence! Hoola-hoops made a comeback here. Then, over here every girl loved The Spice Girls (every boy hated them in a sort of 'she's got cooties' childish way)- and every group of girls got in a fight over who was which Spice Girl. In the UK there was an obsession with the band Boyzone.

The 00's have had a few fads- did you all get the jelly-ball-on-a-string thingy? They were these rubber ball things filled with water and glitter (though some people claimed they'd been blinded by the water- maybe some were from a different place?) that were banned because some girl almost strangled herself to death with the string thingy.

Remember the jelly alien things? There was the one you put in this gel and it grew, the one that 'had' babies, and the sticky one on a jelly string that stuck to the wall.

Also, in about 2001 we got 'Stickees'- basically you bought this lollipop, and inside there's these stick alien toys on string. Everyone bought them and slapped each other in the face with them or stuck them to the ceiling in school- so they were banned.

I love remembering fads.

Gameboy was extremely popular for ages (it kind of died with the 80's style pure white trainers!)- Kirby, Mario. Sonic the Hedgehog.

i luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuv this thread. i didnt grow up in the nineties but i remember all the cartoons from it. I was a fan of Sailor Moon, and i would always pretend with my friends that i was Sailor Jupiter :lol: .

Yes, there was a baby smurf. But, it was delivered to the village by a stork. I remember that episode- but there was something else happened like they might have had to have given the baby away or something. I'm not sure if the baby stayed around for long.

Does anyone know if those smurfs were the ONLY Smurfs- or where there other Smurf communities (smurfunities?)?

This reminds me of that scene in Donnie Darko.
