Ever since Saturday Night Fever was released in 1977, Hollywood has continued to turn out dance films such as Flashdance, Footloose, Save The Last Dance and most recently, Honey. What is everyone's favorite dance movie? My is Flashdance.

Can't beat John Travolta's moves in Saturday Night Fever - or the movie, for that matter. Still, I'm going with Footloose.

Dirty Dancing with Flashdance a close second. When they dropped the water on Jennifer Beals in Flashdance I thought I was going to have a heart attack and die. Damn, she was hot. Saw her in the final episode of Frasier.......still looks pretty damn good. :happyface

Save the Last Dance with Dirty Dancing close behind.

Oh, and I wouldn''t really consider Coyote Ugly a dancing movie.

well, Coyote Ugly was practically a remake of Flashdance (storyline), so I understand why some would consider it a dance movie

Westside Story! Some really great dance scenes in this film. If you've never seen it, see it.

But to answer your question of those listed "Grease."

My all time favorite movie. You're right, it's got great dance scenes, which I've only recently appreciated after seeing this movie so many times. The best I think is when they dance to "Cool", the jazziness of their movements is "cool".

Make sure you vote for Saturday Night Fever in the poll. Next to Flashdance, Saturday Night Fever is my favorite so I would like to see it get a lot of votes. Right now it has no votes. Heck, even the much inferior (IMO) Staying Alive has at least one vote. As of now Grease is ahead, which is what I expected.

In high school I was in a production of West Side Story. I was one of the sharks. In preperation for the production I saw the film and liked it. However, when I was making up this list I was thinking about the movies made in my lifetime. I was born in 1976. For people who are older than me it probably doesn't seem fair that I left out movies like The Sound Of Music, The Music Man, Singing In The Rain, but I haven't seen many of these older ones with the exception of The Sound Of Music, which I didn't care for.

The Sound of Music, The Music Man, Singin In the Rain, Westside Story were movies that were made in the 50's and 60's, all movies made before I was born. If I saw them I rented them or saw them on TCM or AMC.

How about Salsa (1988)? Or one of the 80's hip hop films, like Breakin' (1984)?

I've never seen it but, was Sound of Music a dance movie?

Sound of Music, was more of a musical than a dance movie.

Let's not let this post die quite yet. Not until at least some people vote for Saturday Night Fever. SNF has to be someone's favorite dance movie.

I didn't vote because I like a few of those movies. Fame is one of my all-time favorite movies but dance has nothing to do with why I like it. I also like SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, GREASE and SAVE THE LAST DANCE

I can't believe that not a single person has voted for Fame or that Saturday Night Fever has only recieved one vote or that now Flashdance is behind the dreadful Dirty Dancing (sorry to all fans of this movie)...is there no justice or what? :(

yea, I consider Dirty Dancing overrated as well, "Hungry Eyes" being the only song on the soundtrack I like (well, not counting the 60's classic songs)

There are a couple of reasons I dislike Dirty Dancing. First off, with the exception of John Travolta, I just can't get into watching men dance. This is one of the reasons I dislike Footlloose as well. Women just have much more grace. I also cannot stand Patrick Swayze, so I certianly don't want to see him dancing. Also, Dirty Dancing takes place in the 1960's but the songs written for the film are so obviously 1980's pop songs. And I think that "I've Had the Time of My Life" is simply a weak song.

yea, I agree with it. I like the music from Footloose a lot, but watching Kevin Bacon strutting his stuff in the abandoned garage was just horrifically embarassing, yet Jennifer Beals (or the woman who did her dancing for her) did similar sequences in Flashdance but it was actually fun with her.

I voted for Fame- the bit where they all dance to 'Fame' is brilliant, as well as Leroy's audition when he dances to 'Red Light', and I love the scene where Leroy and the 3 girls are doing ballet all talking to each other in a really bitter way whilst dancing:

"The darker the berry the sweeter the juice"
"Yes. But who wants diabetes?"

Lol, love that bit.

Btw BuffySlayer- although almost all of Jennifer Beals dancing was done by a female extra- the bit where she spins around on her back was done by a man lol.

Though I voted for Flashdance, Fame is a really close second. The scene when Coco and Hillary are fighting over Leroy is funny. The "Fame" dance sequence outside the school is one of the greatest scenes in movie history.
