View Full Version : Is there a way I can change how I look?
G-Force Glockstar

I don't look very nice, in fact, I'm kinda ugly. And I want to change everything on my face, my hair, and just everything on my body.
A few kids at school call me ugly, and sometimes my sisters call me ugly.
But my parents won't let me go dye my hair, or get an extreme makeover.
I know this sounds silly that I want an extreme makeover, but I need one!
Some people don't like me because of how I look.
Is there a way I could change my face without having surgery or anything?
I really wanna look like my idols, Jasmine Trias and Diana DeGarmo, but I can't because they're so much prettier than me.
And another thing, I have braces. They aren't very pretty.
I really need help. I'm desprate.

Oh jesus. Now, I don't know what you look like, but chances are, you're not ugly. How old are you? Like 12? Don't worry about it. Good lord.
And braces are there to make your teeth look better. DEAL WITH THEM. I have for 4 years...

You'll live. Your young, WAY too young to change your look. I had braces for 2 1/2 years. It wasn't terrible, sure my teeth looked bad, but it only hurt me when I had to go get them tightened. My teeth look a LOT better now.

I never liked the way I looked, but lately I haven't been worried about it as much. If people really feel the need to make fun of people who aren't what they consider good looking, then they obviously have some of their own problems to deal with. Plus, we're still young. I look at pictures of my sister when she was in seventh grade, she looks completely different then she does now. At 12 your looks aren't what you should be focusing on.

I used to think I was ugly. I have dark under eye circles and my lips looked blue at times. But now I wear makeup and cover that stuff up.

I have a cricket (sorry, i can't spell the right word) jaw, and people make fun of me because of that.

Do you think that girl on my avator is pretty? That's Jasmine Trias.
I was wondering, because I wanna look like her, but not totally like her, because I'm 5 years younger than her.

I have braces and glasses. I've had my glasses for 3 years, and I've had my braces for over 5 months.
Braces hurt alot, but they usually don't look too bad.

What's wrong with that? Alot of the girls in my class have braces and glasses and they think of it as a fashion statment.

I know, that's a really dumb thing to prejudige over.

I was ugly at that age too, but then I grew up and got better looking. It was just natural.
If you really wanna try something, try a new hairstyle, or wear a little make up. I doubt you need an extreme makeover.

Braces only make you look better.
And for those kids that make fun of you...I'm sure they have imperfections of their own. Pick those out and the next time they say something to you, blast them with their own problems. They'll stop if they're embarrassed enough.

It's actually quite typical to not be so happy about how you look at your age. It's hard because when you're younger you usually don't get to dye your hair or wear make-up. Most people have braces and those are a pain. And then you look up to famous people who are older, and at 12 you usually want to look older. It's just a tough spot...
Maybe you could sit down with your mom and tell her exactly how you feel... Be calm about it... that usually get's you further with parents. :) If she'd let you maybe get a different hair style with a small dye job and wear some makeup that might make you feel better.
And when you're older and the braces are done fixing your jaw, it won't be crooked anymore and your teeth will be perfect. It'll take a little while, but it will turn out awesome when it's all over.

Well when people complain about every single little thing that they don't like in their life while there are people far worse off than them, it's sad. I bet none of you youngsters even bothered to read that article past the first few words. If you did, then maybe she'd realize she didn't have it as bad as she thinks she does.

Please stop the gangup. FullHouseFan posted a thread asking her fellow members for advice and got insults and sarcasm in return.
Most responded kindly....TradingMooses, MaydayMalonesGirl, Mrs. Ducky, Rurry, and especially Dawsongirl and Cashodeen.
Chit Chat has a few new younger members, and I'm not going to sit by and watch anyone be driven off the boards. If a thread doesn't interest anyone, don't post. It's that simple.
If a longtime member had posted a similiar thread, nobody would have replied the way some have on this thread.

Mackenzie, don't feel bad about it. Everyone goes through a homely stage, but many of the people turn out very good looking. Once your braces come off, you will have perfect teeth. Anyway, as my mother tells me, if you are a truly good person, your personality will override your looks.
Good looks enhance a person, but what's better, a good ugly person, or a bad pretty person? And anyone who gets pleasure out of teasing can't be any better than who they are teasing.

Most teenagers these days are spoiled in the fact that they don't know how good they really do have it, even though it seems like the world is falling apart for them. Everyone's complained about it when they have their off days, but no one drags it on constantly like it's the end of the world. You try working to feed your brothers and sisters while your parents have to leave just to make the bare amount of money to keep everyone alive. My parents went through almost the same thing in the 60's and 70's under communism. My grandparets didn't leave home, but everyone had to pitch in and make enough money just so the family could get by. There's a lot of pain and suffering that people go through everyday that most Americans don't know about. You can think it's a guilt trip all you want....doesn't make it any less true.

I never cared for the reasoning of "Don't complain because others are worse off or less fortunate than you".
For every person who has lost a loved one in a car accident or a house fire, there's someone else who has lost their entire family the same way.
Don't complain about your painful arthritis because others have AIDS or cancer....your team loses the 7th game of the World Series, but others can't hear or see a baseball game. I hate that logic.
Everyone's problems are unique to them, and because others have bigger problems doesn't diminish their own troubles.
We can all walk through cancer or burn wards of hospitals and see others worse off, yet that doesn't take away our right to feel bad about our own problems. It doesn't trivialize anything. Everyone is living with their own situations.

Just because people may not shout it from the rooftops that they're in poverty or in some type of "pain and suffering" that you mentioned, doesn't mean that they aren't. The thing is, you don't know anyone on here and you don't know what their lives are like. So you can't go and judge people for complaining about one little thing and automatically assume that that's their biggest problem.

So, when something like that happens I get all pissy about it. I get over it after and am thankful Im even going, but to me thats one of my problems in life lol.
Well said, Janice.

In high school I was overweight and I felt really ugly sometimes! A lot of people go through this. But believe me I got better looking the older that I got! I blossomed in my 40's!(My best years!) Really! I know that seems eons away but it will come faster than you think! Things will get better!

Janice, you are absolutely right! Never say to anbody"It could be worse". That doesn't wash with anyone really suffering with something.(either mentally or physically) That's about the WORSE thing that you can say! Please don't trivialize anyones problems. And that's exactly what that comment does!

Mac, think about this.
Just about everybody here that has replied so far to your thread have all been 12 years old at one time, including me (I'll be 19 in two and a half months). I look NOTHING like when I was 12, so you have nothing to worry about. You're starting to look like an adult, and you go through major facial changes at about 15/16. Your looks gets to be more defined and adult-like by 17.
When you're growing up, you need to let yourself just grow up. Please ignore what the other people say. TRY YOUR HARDEST. If you simply cannot ignore them, say something to them like, "My, my. You LOOK like a child, too! Grow up!". Just think of something. You DON'T need an extreme makeover @ 12, because your body and face is still going through major changes, known as puberty.
Like the others said, braces are there to make your teeth LOOK BETTER. Believe them. (I never had braces, but I knew 100's of other people who did, and they have amazing smiles now) My sister had to wear braces for four YEARS, from the time she was 9 until she was almost 14. If you looked at her now, you would NEVER know she had braces. She has the most amazing smile ever. And as for the glasses - I've been wearing them since 1989 and will have to wear them for the rest of my life. I learned 15 years ago to deal with it and that you CAN get stylish frames. Glasses are very flattering on everybody. I LOVE my current glasses.
Please don't do this to yourself. Think about it. You still have five more years to go (you turn 13 this year, right?) before you turn 18. That's a LOT of time for your body to mature and for you to finally look older. You ARE pretty in your own way. The other kids who make fun of you don't know ****, because THEY have insecurity problems themselves and pick on other kids to make THEMSELVES feel better about themselves. That shouldn't be happening.
(I skipped pages 2-5 in this thread because I'm on dialup and can't be bothered to look at every single post right now, so if that was already covered, sorry)

It's true: The way you look now, at 12? is not the way you'll look in the next few years. You're going through a lot of changes, which is something we've all been through (or are going through). It's not easy, it can be downright painful (emotionally, physically, etc.) - but you'll make it. Hang in there, ok?
Please don't let these people, who have nothing better to do than make fun of you, get the better of you. They're not worth it, not in the least.
It's generally the ones who get teased about their appearance who wind up coming out on top later on.
In retrospect, people's appearances are a lot like flowers. You have some that bloom early, and fade later, and some who aren't as easy to behold early in life, who blossom later in life.
And if I make one more flora reference, I'm gonna snap...
You get the point, though, right....

So true. Man, at 12, I had this ugly ass perm (permed BANGS!!), glasses, braces, zits (tons of zits  ), and in my 7th grade picture, I look like I'm an anorexic albino. ohno:
But just 2 years later, in 9th, I'd lost the glasses and braces, lost the bangs, and my skin tone looked normal. I started dressing more girly (more figure accentuating in other words). Simple things like that made me look human. But, point is, most of us look like terds sometime in our teens. So just give it a couple years.

Alright, this has been bugging me for a while.
FUllHouseFan, I'm sorry for being such a jackass to you in this thread. I didn't realize how outlandish I really was at you, so I'm apologizing for all those comments I made.
As for the moderator and everyone else, I'm sorry for laying such a 'guilt' trip on everyone. I always keep forgetting that everyone is different and has their own situations, as is mine. My parents always taught me that at the end of any day, when you feel like the world is going to fall apart for you and everything seems to go wrong, always remember that you have what you have for a reason, and that you should be grateful for that, because some people might not be as fortunate. I wasn't raised like a normal american kid, so maybe we don't see eye to eye on everything, but I thought I'd explain myself.

That's really nice of you. It's true that our upbringing shapes our philosophy on life, and I think your parents have the right idea in many respects.
I also believe that we should count our blessings and realize that there are always people who are less fortunate than ourselves. I just don't like to hear it when things are going wrong in my life.

Trust me also when I tell you to wait for about 6-7 more years, then you can put down a picture of yourself when you were 12 and compare it to a picture of yourself at 18. You won't even look the same at 18.

Ok, a few suggestions
1.) If you LIKE your hair, I don't suggest dying it, if you do you're gonna either haveta maintain it for the rest of your life or you gonna haveta let it grow out and have it look ridiculous like a few girls at my school. Not to mention the fact that it'll damage the quality of your hair as you get older.
2.) Yea, I honestly don't know what to tell ya for that one...maybe it'll just be a cool lil quirk for you when you're older. You could be the next Kate Bosworth...I used to think that different color eyes were so weird but now my opinions changed, I think it would be so cool to have different color eyes. So hell, go off, become famous and lil 10 year olds can go around saying, "I wish my left eye would just float around in my eye". Hey, dare to dream chickey
3.) Next time you go to the orthodontists, complain about your jaw, I'm sure they have some sorta invention that they're gonna ridiculously overprice and advertise to you parents so they're baby can have perfect teeth.
Trust me, you'll grow into your looks, you really will, and if people are gonna be jerks to you about the way you look, would you even want to be friends with them, or look a certain way for them? It's not worth it...trust me. You'll find your way :)

Unless someone has a severe jaw problem, usually braces at a young age, along with certain appliances can prevent jaw surgery in the future. Orthodonics not only straightens teeth, but also guides the jaw's growth so they become positioned in the right place. If she needed jaw surgery, her orthodontist would have to tell her she needs it. It's really not something you elect to have.
That was offtopic... I'm just saying, braces for her might be enough.

You're very correct. I had to get braces and after my consult the orthodontist told my mom that I would also have to have jaw surgery. If you need surgery though, don't fret. It's not that bad, and I don't regret doing it. Anyway you only have glasses and braces, that doesn't make you ugly! Glasses you can eventually get rid of when you are older, you can get contacts. And then of course, your braces will go away.
