View Full Version : Actors that played Steve's students
I notice the following about the actors that played Steve's students. I looked up the resume of all of the actors on "The Steve Harvey show." They all have done some dramatic roles.
Merlin Santana (Romeo), William Lee Scott(Bullethead), Tracy Vilar(Sophia), Nefta Perry (Sara), Arieyn A. Johnson (Aisha), and Brenda Lawson (Rosalind), have all done some dramatic acting roles. Why did they cast actors with dramatic backgrounds? Some of the actors did not have any acting comedic experience when they were cast on "Steve Harvey show."
The only one of the students who has no dramatic acting experience, and in my opinion the least funniest one is Lori Beth Denbeg. (Lydia)

If you are a good actor and have training you can bring more to your character to make the character funny and more well rounded. LoriBeth didn't have that kind of background training to draw from hence she wasn't funny. There was absolutely nothing subtle about her performances in this show.
Also Steve and Cedric have no dramatic acting expereince. So they cast people with dramatic acting background to balance the two comedians.
You are right about Lori Beth. The other actors on the show had the training. If you compair Lori Beth's acting resume to the resume of the other actors on the show at IMDb, it is almost laughable.
The Lydia character was not rounded at all, was silly and trying to be funny all the time. The other characters were rounded and knew when to be funny, and when to tone it down and let some other character (mostly Steve and Cedric) have the laugh.

LoriBeth sticks out like a sore thumb in this show. The guy that played Bullethead was the only white in the beginning but he fits into the scheme of things much more than she does. She is very hammy and outrageous in an artificial kind of way, like she was planted into the show out of nepotism or something. Lovita is outrageous in her own way, but she doesn't seem out of place.
Kenan and Kel would have worked better as students.
All of the other students exept for Lydia, are belivable as students. In high school, I knew guys like Romeo and Bullethead, who were always clowning around and getting low grades. I knew girls like Sara and Sophia, who where also talking to each other during class. I even knew tough girls like Coretta in high school. And I think all of you knew these types of characters in high school too. I could relate to these characters.
But Lydia seems like a character from another planet. I didn't know any kid like her, and I think most of you didn't know anyone like her in high school either. I couldn't relate to Lydia, like I could to the other characters.

I knew people like all those characters too. Lydia was unrealistic, but maybe an exaggerated depiction of LoriBeth's real persona, after all she was a child performer.

Lori Beth started on Nickelodeon's "ALL That" The show that helped to launch- Kenan, Kel and Nick Cannon. Well, I absolutely hated her characters and she an awful actress as far as I am concerned.

Lydia came to Steve's apartment yesterday on a old episode i was watchin where Cedric & Levita had a party at Steve's place cause their apartment was flooded. When she knocked on the door & Romeo answered, she said sorry i'm late. Romeo said what u mean u sorry u late, nobody invited u hahahahahahaha. She came to the party with a pink dress on lookin like she was gonna be in a ballet hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. She is so lame.
Lori Beth is in the new dodge ball movie, which stars Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller. I saw a trailer for this movie, while waiting to see "Breakin All the Rules", which features another actress that played one of Steve's students, Bianca Lawson.
This dodge ball movie makes "Love Don't Cost a Thing" look good.
