How do you get a computer out of safe mode? Everything is huge and it's annoying.

Since we're on computers here, my old computer crashed, so I got a new. On my old one I have some tax info on it I can't remove ( it keeps freezing up when I retry to remove it ). The computer guy told me to remove the hard drive and smash it or take a magnet and rub it on the hard drive. Where exactly is the hard drive in the back of the computer?

It's a way, so to speak, of the computer attempting to protect itself from whatever the problem is. Safemode is just a troubleshooting mode of loading the operating system, without loading any of your background programs or drivers,

it doesnt hurt you computer, it is just a tool you can use to fix software problems - if the problem goes away when you are in safemode, then you know it is a software problem, NOT a hardware one

you should be able to get back into normal mode by rebooting, as long as there are no software or driver conflicts; if it doesnt, you definately have a problem

if you are using XP, try use the System Restore feature,
in 98, the easiest solution would be a scanreg /restore at a DOS prompt (but that only works if you haven't rebooted more than 5 times since the problem started)

Anyway, I just wanted to ask since you mentioned DOS prompt in your post. Thanks. there is no DOS or DOS mode in XP, (although you CAN install the Recovery Console - which is basically the same thing)
when you say it went into DOS mode, what happened exactly, what was on the screen and what color was it?

Yeah, it did. Don't know why, cuz all my mom did was turn it on, but this computer sucks anyway. It's okay now, it's just that the icons were huge. I finally realized I had to fix the screen size.
