View Full Version : Spinoff of Maude

I see there has been a lot of arguing on rather Good Times was spinoff of Maude. It is in fact a pinoff of Maude. Florida was Maude's maid and friend. In 1974 a mid-season replacement was needed and Good Times was chosen to be the replacement. It was decided it would be spun-off Maude, because it was such a popular show and to give it a link to another popular show All in the Family. Henry Evans became James Evans. As for them being in Chicago and Maude being in Tuckahoe, the script for Good Times was set in Chicago, but the producers decided to give the show a head start by tying it to Maude. Hopefully, this will clear up the dispute.

Can you give an intelligent answer as to how Good Times was connected to Maude?

Well, sorry, but you know what, Good Times is and forever will be a spin-off of Maude. Why is it that you have a hard time grasping/handling this?

Because you or Norman Lear still have not given me a intelligent answer as to why The Evans were in Chicago and not NY or why John Amos character name was changed.

Actually you saying "inspiration" does reference to spinoff. It is a spinoff. LOL. I am laughing because of the statement that SitcomAnalyzer made. "It is up to me to correct them ." That struck me as funny. I see nothing changes. LOL. I hope everyone is well. From what I have been reading, it seems everything has been business as usual. It seems to me that the majority says spinoff.

Thank you for your input CoolCounty. Good Times will always be a spinoff until an intelligent answer can be given as to why Esther Rolle's character was called Florida Evans in both sitcoms.

Because of the way I read it. It really struck me as funny. It is like you gave the opposite of SitcomAnalyzer's theory. Hey poster formerly known as SOLOMON or Brain Damage, has it been a year since this hot topic made it's debut? I think it has been a while. We can celebrate the anniversary and have a party online. LOL.

I thought it was a dead issue myself. There are always new people that are going to read Solomon's statements and think he's crazy.

I have to agree with you there. He will be infamous. You have to admit, he makes the boards interesting.

Absolutely! Half my posts are retorts to some of his ridiculous comments. Most of them involving this issue. ;)
