View Full Version : Do you love yourself?

I've come in contact with alot of people who misconstrue self-confidence with self-love. I know lots of people love themselves but still have reservations about wanting to change, how many of us just love everything about ourselves and wouldn't change for the world?

I've hated myself every day for the past two and a half years. Why stop now?
I wouldn't say I was in love with myself. I don't think I could handle that kind of commitment.
So I'd say I'm just good friends with myself.

I think we all know the answer for about 98% of the people on this board.
"Nope, infact I hate myself."
Now we don't have to go through pages and pages of people saying they hate themselves. :)

I hate certain things about myself. I wish I knew how to interact with people instead of always being by myself all the time... that's the biggest thing I wish I could change.
I voted "I hate myself" But now that I'm thinking about it, that's not completely true. There are somethings about myself that I love and I would never change. So it's sort of 50/50.

I don't know about everybody else here, but sometimes when I'm on SO, I feel like I'm the only one in the world who actually feels good about herself.
I mean, I know people have problems...and that's okay...but I feel like I'm all by myself in thinking that life is pretty darn good the way it is. There are just so many people here who aren't thrilled with themselves. :(

Um...it's not exactly a choice. There's some things I like about myself, but there's other things I hate so much that I can't change. I always feel like ****...if I say one little thing mean to someone, even if I'm joking, I'll feel bad about it. It's so hard for me to talk to people, there's another thing I hate about myself. I'm annoying, there's another. All the time talking to people all I can think about it how stupid they must think I am, even if it's friends. I just always feel like an ass and it's something you just can't help...because believe me, if I could be a happier person, I would be.

Once again, it's not a choice. Some people like you are lucky enough to be born without low-self esteem and they can't understand for anything with it's like, so they just blame it on the person feeling sorry for themselves.

I may have been born without low self steem but I've had a very deep moment of lack of it in my life and had to get up from it and start all over again; turn from pesimistic to optimistic. Out of lemons make a good lemonade.

I know that, and I try to be happy. But sometimes I think my life is pathetic and will never go anywhere. I know that's stupid to say, I'm only 14...but sometimes it feels that way and it makes everything seem useless.

That I feel, some people do give off bad vibes, which would make some unsure person feel even smaller. That's why I try to be an open mind.
A while back on a certain board there was a big misunderstandin between a homosexual and a homophobe. I thought the argument was stupid and no matter what you believe people should be like, everyone has the given right to live the way they want. It's crazy that, this country provides you with freedom of speech and expression, but there is always the fine print, or the reservations of what they will except you to be like. I think we'd have less problems as a people if "freedom" was practiced the right way.
I believe That has something to do with how you feel about yourself, the fact that you know it's ok to be yourself.

Just because a person hates themselves, it doesnt mean they want you to feel sorry for them, because the people that want people to feel sorry for them probably are really lame and just want attention. I, myself am not one of those people. I don't want anyone feeling sorry for me. Probably most of the people that said they do hate themselves don't want you telling them that they need to just change themselves, because that really doesn't help. I know if I achieve the things I want one day, I might not hate myself 90% of the time anymore. Just my opinion.

I agree. There was no sympothy regarded for this thread, I just had a feeling that there were more people that had reservations about themselves.
The question really was, "do you love yourself?", not whether you loved or hated yourself. Self-Love to me, comes with age, ambition and wisdom. I think the older you get you become more of a thinker and less of a reactor. When I was younger, I had days where I wished I could have more responsibilities but hated the work it took to get there. Like now, everything I was told at an earlier age comes into play, and days where I feel like giving up, become less of a problem because I plug in ways of dealing with that. I was just saying before people make it hard to be yourself, but as you grow and understand it becomes less of a burden, to actually be yourself.
I don't know if I'm leading off subject, or what?

Well, I love myself to a point. But I think the definition of loving yourself, is loving who you are inside and out regardless of what anyone else thinks. And as that is defined, no I don't love myself. But I love myself in the sense that I am headstrong and know what I want to do with my life, and I'm confident I'll get it done regardless of what anyone else thinks. BUT to truly love myself as I just defined, I don't think I'll be able to say I do until I stop caring what everyone else thinks of me. Of course, that in itself is hard, because if you don't care what they think about you TOO MUCH, then you look cold and heartless to others feelings. And I don't want that. It's a fine line between the two. Also, it's two TOTALLY different things, to love yourself, and to be IN love with yourself. If you are in love with yourself, THEN you are over the fine line to the side of not caring what anyone thinks, and you will then look cold and heartless. So by my not being in love with myself I don't cross that fine line!!!
Make any sense????

That's how I feel. I don't even show that I hate myself, and only complain about it when I'm feeling really down. People who want attention will always complain and do crazy things and blame it on depression or something. *******s
