I was surprised to find out that one of my favorite shows, What's happening!! on how many of the actors on that show have passed away, including the recent death of Fred "rerun" Berry in 2003...Berry died in 2003 and also gone is the mother, Shirley and the actor who played Mr. Thomas (Raj and Dee's father)...

I know this is somewhat of a depressing topic but is there any favorite characters on your favorite shows that are now in Television heaven...:(

Michelle Thomas(Myra) from "Family Matters". She died of cancer less than a year after the series ended in 1998. She was only 23 or 24 I think :(

Of course... Carroll O'Connor of "All in the Family" :(

Robert Stack, host of "Unsolved Mysteries" :(

Glenn Quinn(Mark, Becky's boyfriend) from "Roseanne". He died of a drug overdose a couple of years ago. I believe he was only 28 or 29.

I'm sure there are more... this is all I can think of right now off the top of my head.

I think a better name for this thread would be sitcom actors who've passed away as opposed to characters. With that in mind, here are a few not yet mentioned:

Ted Bessell--That Girl
Merlin Santana--Steve Harvey Show
Dana Plato--Diff'rent Strokes
Andy Kaufman--Taxi
Zara Cully--Jeffersons
Tom Villard--We Got It Made
Jester Hairston--Amen
Cathryn Damon--Soap
Richard Mulligan--Soap/Empty Nest
Nell Carter--Gimme A Break
Christopher Hewett--Mr. Belvedere
Rebecca Schaefer--My Sister Sam
Merritt Butrick--Square Pegs
Helen Martin--227
Michael Cuccione--2Gether
Heather O'Rourke--Happy Days
Florence Stanley--Fish
Gordon Jump--WKRP In Cincinnati

plus a favorite of mine from the movie/tv show Fame--Gene Anthony Ray. Rest in peace.

There are so many great stars that have passed away but the one I'll always be upset about is John Ritter.

Also upsetting that Vic Tayback(Alice) is no longer around as well as Ted Knight. I know there are more but I am losing my memory as the clock strikes 1am.:sleep2:

Yes! Richard Mulligan, Nell and Rebecca Schaeffer. Those are some more unfortunate losses, as well. It's sad but so many talented actors/actresses have passed away and you don't remember all of them have until someone starts a thread like this one. :- ( It's a good thread though, depressing but good to give us a chance to remember those who have passed on.

Werner Klemperer's still alive. I saw him a couple weeks ago on "Biography" on A & E. They were doing Bob Crane and they had a comment from him.

On a brighter note though, almost the entire "I Dream of Jeannie" cast is still around.

According to the book "Auto-Focus" ( about the murder of Bob Crane), Klemperer passed away a few years ago. I am sure what you watched on A &E was a rerun.

On a similar note, about a year ago I saw a bio about Three's Company, they featured an interview with Norman Fell. Yet nothing was said about his passing, though its been a number of years since Fell died.

since this is Sitcom CHARACTERS that have passed away, how about some of these (whether the actor is alive or dead, the CHARACTER)

Henry Blake - M*A*S*H (McLean Stevenson left the show)
Todd Stites - Suddenly Susan (David Strickland committed suicide right before the end of the season, so the season finale was a "farewell" episode to his character)
Coach - Cheers (Nicholas Colasanto died between seasons)
Paul (not sure the last name) - 8 Simple Rules (we all know what happened with John Ritter)

there's plenty of others, help me, it's 4:15 am and my brain is tired, lol

Nick- Barney Miller (Jack Soo died during 5th season I think)
James- Good Times (John Amos was fired from the show).
Edith- Archie Bunckers Place

Your right Buffy is about SITCOM characters. The 2 that I mention(John Amos, Jean Stapleton) are still alive today.

John Amos wasn't fired from "Good Times"; he quit the show after a disagreement. He was followed 1 or 2 seasons later by Esther Rolle.

OK, here's my new list:

Written out:

G. W. Haines, The Waltons (Erin's boyfriend; killed in training at Camp Lee)

Aunt Martha Corinne Walton, The Waltons (died while picking flowers)

Curtis Willard, The Waltons (Mary Ellen's first husband; killed during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor while as a doctor in the military, only to wake up a few episodes later and be living in Florida, with a new name, and played by a new actor)

Arthur A. Collins, The Wonder Years (Kevin's algebra teacher; died of a heart attack one weekend)

Died after the show ended:

Ike Godsey, The Waltons (died after the show ended, according to the narrator in at least one episode)

Jack Arnold, The Wonder Years (two years after the show ended, so the finale told us)

Almost written out:

It is said that if The Brady Bunch had come back for a sixth season, Mike (the father) would have been killed off, either dying in an auto crash or going on an extended architectural project.

According to at least one source there were plans to write out Winnie Cooper on The Wonder Years after a contract dispute.
