Nick at Nite Acquires Bob Saget 'AFV' Episodes for April and 'George Lopez' for Fall; Nickelodeon Upfront
Nick at Nite has acquired two new hit comedy series - George Lopez and the show that began the user-generated content phenomenon, America's Funniest Home Videos. The network will roll out 111 half-hour episodes and two, one-hour specials of America's Funniest Home Videos beginning Monday, April 30 at 8:30 PM (ET/PT). The reality comedy hosted by Bob Saget (1990-97) features viewers' wacky candid videos, as Saget (Full House) does double-duty on Nick at Nite. In addition, the network has purchased all 120 episodes of George Lopez which will premiere Fall 2007 during Hispanic Heritage Month.
The two new series join the Nick at Nite lineup of comedies, which will include Home Improvement also this fall, the recently added Growing Pains, the Emmy(TM) Award-winning series The Cosby Show, Full House, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Roseanne.
George Lopez debuted on ABC in 2002 and is now currently in its sixth season on ABC.
America's Funniest Home Videos premiered on ABC on January 14, 1990. Bob Saget served as host for eight seasons of the timeless American TV institution (1990-1997). Now in its 17th season, America's Funniest Home Videos continues to entertain audiences nationwide.

This Nick at Nite news came out of the upfront presentation for Nickelodeon. This is the first time that Nickelodeon and Nick at Nite had an upfront together, as usually it was TV Land and Nick at Nite. TV Land's upfront will be on March 23 with Bill Clinton as its speaker! He will announce what new shows and originals are coming to TV Land. Anyway, here is the notable stuff that came out of the Nickelodeon upfront, besides Nick at Nite's announcements:
Nickelodeon has started production on iCarly, a scripted comedy that will integrate video submitted by its viewers. The show, starring Miranda Cosgrove, will revolve around a a middle school girl who becomes a star after creating a Webcast in her basement. Carly will solicit viewer-created content in response to weekly assignments, and the best submissions will be integrated into the online show or on-air show, which is set for a September 2007 launch.
Announcements of new linear TV shows were sparse - new teen-targeted shows The Naked Brothers Band and Just Jordan will return for second seasons, along with new episodes of Zoey 101; preschool shows The Umizumiz, Bubble Guppies, and Making Fiends join the schedule in 2007-08. New episodes of SpongeBob and Fairly OddParents also will air, along with Dora the Explorer.
