Rembering Al 'Grandpa Munster' Lewis; VH1 Countdowns Top 100 Teen Stars; 'Yes, Dear' Superbowl Sunday Marathon on TBS
The sitcom world lost a legend last night. Al Lewis passed away last night after years of failing health problems. Lewis, with his wife at his bedside, passed away Feb. 3, said Bernard White, program director at WBAI-FM, where the actor hosted a weekly radio program. White made the announcement on the air during the Saturday slot where Lewis usually appeared. Al Lewis is most remembered playing Grandpa Munster on the hit 1960s sitcom The Munsters. He also co-starred on the sitcom Car 54, Where Are You? He made guest appearances on TV series such as The Phil Silvers Show, Gomer Pyle, Green Acres, Love American Style, Here's Lucy and Taxi. He played Grandpa Munster in many reunion movies of The Munsters and also played Grandpa Munster on the ABC/Nick at Nite sitcom Hi Honey, I'm Home in 1991. The Munsters currently airs on TV Land every morning and if they have any plans of a tribute marathon to Mr. Lewis, we will certainly be one of the first to let you know.
